Its a sixth game against a single conference.

Already, ND gets hit with "you are not independent" because of the five game commitment.

Adding a sixth game adds to the pressure and the impression that ND football is not an independent.

ND wants to hold the line at five games and no more.

We shall see today, I guess, whether ND relents on that or not.

Frankly, I hope not.

Means nothing to me anymore because I knew 15 years ago ND wasn't joining or saving anyone.......but nobody cares if ND is an independent. Seriouly a nothing burger. I know it means something to ND.....but nobody else really cares.

In reality it means less to me than ever, but I do not want to be attached to the ACC for a sixth game. We quasi-Indy in reality, but a 6th game would make it even lamer and hold less value. The complaints will be massive if we give a 6th game up, because at that point what are we even doing?

Scheduling the same team you have for 26 years in a row?

If there’s a sixth game don’t worry, you all will get special treatment.
We will be tied to the ACC for 6 games, hell no. Sorry, i do not care if it was Navy. Add Stanford fine, but they join the rotation and play us every 4 years. Five games, no more, no less. Stick to the contract. One more game will not add much money to the coffers anyway, but it will take away from ND.

We get your personal bias. What ND has shown is they want to play in California once a year, and they like to alternate between SoCal and NoCal.

So what ND is going to do will because they want to do it.

No, we're good.

ND has never had interest in saving anybody. It had no interest in saving the Big East either.

However, in this hypothetical that isn't happening, the question is whether you plan on playing Stanford every year regardless. Because if Navy were added, then you'd be at a 7/8ths conference schedule. What's the point of not playing for a conference title at that point? Frankly, it would be dumb not to commit to one more game for a big pile of extra money at that point.

Just to clear, in the real world, Navy isn't being added.

ND has no duty to save anyone from their own self generated problems, not Cal, not Stanford, not the old Big East and not the current ACC.

Exactly, that is why I am pissed Swarbrick said anything. It opened us up to warranted arrows and shouts of hypocrisy (which in this instance ring true)

In ND's defense, NOBODY in the media, at the networks, in the P5 can avoid the hypocrite label.

Name a school that didn't leave a conference, that didn't look out for themselves first, that didn't put $$ first, that didn't put their interest first, that didn't poach another league?

It's a SHORT list.....basically nobody.

The irony for example of SEC sports media (ESPN included) being upset about expansion......they helped create it.

ND could join the B1G or any other conference tonight and I wouldn't lose an ounce of sleep. Do what you want to do, ND.

But I'm fascinated by the obsession over independence in the current conference and CFP landscape. Other than saying the word "independent" what is the benefit? In 1990 I could see it.

They are now costing a chance to win a conference championship, a number 1 seed in the CFP not to mention large sums of money.
