This isn't going to be easy because frankly, none of the current options for anyone looks close to being good or worth it.

I'd rather employ a Commissioner daring to fail than a Commission failing to dare.

The MWC was not imploding at the time so they did not have to make a choice right then.

With the PAC imploding, the remaining 4 have to do something. Maybe they get better deals and go that way, but if no better deal presents itself then the AAC could be a landing pad.

If they decided to do a merger, we probably look better than the MWC financially, not counting the travel situation.

Well said. Grab San Diego State and Boise State while you’re at it Mike. Make it an even 20 teams.

The PAC is going to loose A5 status just like the Big East did prior to becoming the American. These schools best bet is merge with an existing league and throw that commissioner into the fire.

Far different situations. AFA and CSU didn't have to make any decision at all, they were in a stable home. These 4 gotta do something quickly. Unless they can find a P4 landing spot it's going to be an option they won't be happy about.

On a sliding scale per university, they likely won't be happy with the P4 offers either.

Probably not, but my guess is Stanford and Cal are trying to whore themselves out for 1/2 shares in either the B1G or the ACC, and it wouldn't stun me if the ACC takes them and then uses the other half of their shares to increase payouts for FSU and Clemson.

A temp fix but sets the ACC up for when the top schools leave to go coast to coast

RE: AAC trying to add the PAC 4
Those last four schools know that their 'A5' status is gone. The other four P5s will make sure of that. What we see now are distraught, overwhelmed commodities clinging to survival. It's the reason they're talking to the ACC, and/or the BIG12. I feel for them. We've been in their shoes. It's a crushing blow to small private schools that don't prioritize athletics. Their cash cow is dead. They can't ride the coattails of their big brothers anymore. If they must, they'll join The American or MWC, but only if there is no other option.

I think Stanford goes ACC. They fit there in a number of ways. Cal has so much debt that I'm not sure they can survive on a reduced ACC share, not with all the increased expenses involved.

Yeah, Ourland, I hear you about getting left behind. It blows.

Man, truth be told, with the cards Aresco was dealt, and to be in a conference that is brave enough, daring enough, and has the heart and body of a power conference behind him… we aren’t hitting above our weight class, this is our weight class. He is earning his paycheck and hope to is revitalizes the conference admins and we get this this done.

So glad to hear this news and way to go Aresco. Glad he is out commish, we got a good one atleast to be in the ring.

If Stanford and Cal go to the ACC then Washington State and Oregon State will have to join AAC or the MW. With the additional travel and I question if those teams really worth it, unless it allows us to pull in someone from the MW (doubtful). in this case I wonder if they may not be a fit for the MW.

No shot at Cal and Stanford to the AAC. Their almuni shiver at that thought...lol.
But....the other 2 may be in play.
Far road trips for non Olympic sports. Are those 2 worth it? Is it worth it for them? Then....there's the easily accessible MWC. Not as much $$ and not as much exposure, tho I wonder if those 2 would add to that.
Aresco, I'll bet, if he wanted, could get OR St and WSU. He's gotta do a sell job.
I think this could be a good BOLD move. Not sure that is his style. In fact I know it's not. Getting those 2 would be a coup for the AAC. Just for momentum alone. Be aggressive. Don't let others dictate..
We'll see if he can get it done.

Ol' Mike had a chance to get both of them before. I think 2020/2021.
They would have been in the AAC now but he said Cya later to them.
Oh.....and btw.....they WANTED to come to the AAC.
I have a feeling neither of those teams would ever come over to the AAC, lest their conf falls apart.
