MAC has kept its core together. MAC is about backyard rivalries. MAC has that as its sell to TV networks.

Devils advocate why would a TV network care about this?

Strangely, we had to twist ESPN's arm to release the main MAC rivalries back to Saturdays, and even then we had to agree to a rotation.

I mean does anyone outside of MI/OH watching MACtion (mostly bettors or those starved for any football on a worknight) know or care much about the intra-MAC rivalries, let alone make special arrangements to watch them? i.e., "Nah, I'm not watching Kent State vs. Ball State, but I'm making sure to watch Kent State vs. Akron" - some random guy in California.

I think a lot of alumni around the country look forward to those games over the average person who does not know much about either school, or the league in general. Additionally, the rivalry games tend to have better attendance which may draw the casual viewer over watching a game played in an empty stadium.

Exactly, people (that aren't regionally located or alums) aren't tuning into the MAC because of any rivalry. It's simply people that enjoy football or have a stake in the game. Aside from true CFB junkies, can any SEC/B12/P12/ACC fan name a single MAC rivalry? Probably not.

Similar to how we remember when the G5 beats the P5, but aside from CMU beating Ok St. in controversial fashion, do CFB fans remember these games happening? I remember BG beating MIN or M-OH beating NW, but that's because I'm a fan of the MAC.

RE: The MAC
Hey Mid-American Conference Guys,

This is going to be a strange post, but I gotta do it. I did have a chuckle when seeing the name of the thread, The Mac, and the first post and sentence was about stability.
If this ain't the epitome of what the MAC Conference represents, I don't know what would be more. I would say, a typical AAC thread to epitome us, would be we deserve much better, and get screwed over all the time.

ANYWAY!

Just going around the difference conferences, and lurk to see everyone's reactions to the College Reallignment, while also playing this game called SnowRunner on XBox.
I noticed there is a rumor here of a Merger between the AAC and MAC. I thought to myself the future is pretty bleak if it gets to that point, speaking from some dude in Raleigh, NC a Pirate Fan.

But to share and be completely honest, there is a reality where I am completely on board and excited to do so. It's not first, (AAC/MWC/Pac4 Merger would be my first) but there would be no other schools I would want to merge with than the MAC as the other option.

From Connecticut, and also worked on an Ice breaker in the USCG, and I love love love snow and the cold. I just do not get enough of that weather in Raleigh anymore.
So if there isn't evidence somewhere on the internet, there is now: I would take you all, and even sign a GOR, because that would display stability, a trademark of your conference, but under our banner.

I hope we get into the ACC, or a MWC/AAC Merger, but as a solid #3 option, I would like to be conference mates at that stage, because to me, there could be a lot of excitement than whatever sbeltcusa would be.

Cheers Guys, and I hope the best for you guys, The fact now I may just watch more of your games so I can experience your brand. I would think going to a buffalo game vs ecu in the snow, or a NIU Game vs ecu would be legit, because for awhile NIU I think really wanted to be in the AAC, and it looked like it was going to happen. I cannot stand UConn for what they did to ECU, even as I grew up there. NIU Huskies to me are the best boys to me now.

Hey bud welcome.
I don't think the whispers of AAC MAC merger are sincere. I think just barstool nonsense for some whacky discussion and attention.

We have some friends who live in Tuscon, AZ. And neither one of them went to a MAC school (one graduated from Colorado). And they always tune in to the MAC football games. They especially like the mid week games in November for some reason. And no, they are not just tuning in to watch because they have bets on the games. They had been watching MAC games for years, way before on line betting became available.

So there actually are people who are interested in these games, not just alumni of MAC schools.

Those are called outliers, though. There's a reason the MAC's TV contract is only $8 million.....total....for all schools to share.

I would first like to say welcome! It is always good to have a fan from another Conference visit(and not to Troll or tear down).

Even as a MAC Fan, even I understand that our greatest asset(Stability), is also our greatest liability. Most of the fans here want us to do something, but nothing ever gets done and we are done adding Schools just to add Schools and the Networks know this!

I know that the MAC is not going anywhere, but my fear that we may get forced down....

The current MAC deal with ESPN is worth $10 million per year.

This day and age, it's unbelievable how we're not all getting at least $1 million per school. There is sooooo much money in college football right now. This deal is hogwash. Steinbrecher needs to go, and the MAC needs to bring in a new energetic, fierce leader to conjure up a better media deal while expanding the MAC's brand.

I'm old enough to remember when the only MAC game on television was the California Bowl, and even that game was only on regional cable networks like Detroit's PASS. (ESPN picked up the game when it was relocated to Las Vegas.)

It seems to me that the MAC has been outkicking its coverage for quite some time with weeknight #MACtion. Not only are our November football games in prime time on national television, but the network is paying all of our schools close to $1 million per year for the content. It could be a whole lot worse.

The MAC has come a long way certainly. One has to think with the rise of the gambling industry and midweek MACtion being a huge part of that world, we are deserving of more money from ESPN because we're bringing in more viewers, especially when Barstool Sports makes a big deal about us.

Speaking of which, my understanding is ESPN is getting into the gambling business with Barstools betting operations and is going to call it ESPN Bet. So ESPN is going to make even more money off the MAC and still pay us peanuts...

Don't think so, they have an enrollment of less than 10k. Basically not fitting the model of MAC publics with an enrollment of 25-30k. Pittsburg is nice and do have a good FCS team. Just don't think so.

Football season starts in 15 days for Ohio and us as well!
