WVU.
KState.

They only put up with WasSU and OrSU because they were legacy.

Well, if they rebuild the PAC, they’ll have to add schools like UNLV, New Mexico, Fresno State and possibly even Boise State. How is that any better than joining a conference with WVU or Kansas State?

Right. That's why they probably aren't rebuilding.

Winner.

Cali-Stan will either (a) see WasSU and OrSU leave, or (b) leave.

Cal is much more open to the Big 12 than anyone here realizes. The entire UC Regents UCLA shakedown was driven by Cal's Stadium retrofit debt problem:

Cal is freaking desperate. Their athletic department is already in crisis. Unfortunately this makes them pretty untouchable for realignment for the B1G and Big 12.

I knew Cal was in a bad way, but ... Hoe-Leigh-Scheitballs!

Egos, mostly I would wager. With acceptance rates below 20% they'd probably rather go independent than play with schools in Texas or anywhere beyond Colorado and Arizona.

Nobody wants the people who run Cal in their corporate decision tree.

Give both sides some time to process everything, see what happens with the ACC in the next year/decade/whatever, and it's possible that both the Big 12 and Cal/Stanford reconsider their potential future relationship.

Like I said before, they can't go Independent in football since they have no access into the playoffs.

They have access to the playoffs there are at least six at-large spots, though sounds like that might end up being 7.

They just wouldn't have access as one of the 6 or 5 highest rated conference champions.

BXII would be crazy not to go after Cal and Furd.

Football drives the bus and the BXII now has too many schools feeding at the TX trough with respect to recruiting footprint. Talk of OSU, WSU, Gonzaga, UConn is ridiculous. There’s no talent there. The B12 needs to diversify its recruiting footprint with some combo of cal, Stanford, SDSU, and USF. Preferably all four.

Stanford claims the most successful all-around athletic department in the country. The school is not about to drop sports.

Cal is getting a percentage of UCLA's B1G boost to help it upgrade athletic facilities. The school is not about to drop sports.

And the University of Chicago did not drop sports. The Maroons just opted out of playing American football.

Probably because the networks won't authorize more money.

There was nothing stopping the Big 12 from taking them before Utah and Arizona State. If the Big 12 thought a 2nd school in Arizona and a school in Utah are more valuable than schools in California when they have none and schools in Salt Lake City and Phoenix (or Tuscon if you consider ASU the first Arizona school) more valuable than schools in the San Francisco area, the Big 12 doesn't think much of Cal and Stanford. 4th time zone my butt. In November, the most important month of football, the current Big 12 still doesn't have any Pacific Time Zone teams.

Theyd rather be in the B1G or ACC. Independence after that. Big 12 as the last option before staying and adding or joining MW schools.

They’re going to lobby for a spot in the B1G and failing that will be 17/18 in the BigXII. Because that’s what any sane school would do in their position.

adding stanford and cal in some capacity, obviously it would need to be more than those 2 though, is not a terrible idea as it will allow us to get more money just from acc network distributions for California and the 1/2 a game additional inventory from the Stanford/ Notre Dame agreement. The travel for just football wouldnt be that bad with only 3 permanent rivals
