Of note your qbs going with the 1st practice group (the vets) were Lombardi, Hampton, and Kidd.
Interesting idea to split the squads - I think there is a lot a young guy can learn by watching, so I don’t always love splitting the squads.

RE: Practice #1
Don't understand Eddie Carifio's initial tweet that read: "I will now share with you some of the things I would have tweeted had I been allowed to tweet during practice." Why on earth would there be a ban on someone posting a tweet during practice. Whether it is the pros, college, or even high school, writers tweet notes, observations, and updates throughout a game; what's the big deal doing so at a practice?

I'm guessing they don't want someone taking video of the practice on a smart phone.

Yeah, that's what I had thought too. Tweeting is fine. But tweeting could also lead to videotaping. I know we are the MAC, and who cares about us. But you can never be too safe. We are gonna need all the competitive advantages to win this thing.

Plus, Toledo could be spying on us to get information to recruit (read: steal) our players. They are a non-stop recruiting machine!

Many comedy clubs have a no cell phone policy too where everyone at one table has to put their cell phones in an envelope or some kind of zipper bag and it can't be opened until either you leave or the show is over.
Basically, you simply can't trust people to sit with their phones. At a comedy club it could be distracting but also they often don't want videos or audio getting out. But at a practice, obviously the threat is spying and having a video tape of something they don't want a video of being out there.

You don't need to cheat when you are superior in every aspect of everything to your competition, like Toledo is. Maybe one day, if we eat our vegetables and study, we too could be an academic and athletic powerhouse like Toledo.

I think the split squad is a great idea. More coaching and more reps. Much better than standing around and watching.

For some. Some guys have to see what the right way to do things is first. When you don’t have the older guys to watch first it makes it harder. I personally believe in a mix of that for younger guys. I would be curious what the two practices rosters look like.

While I can understand the concern over videotaping -- even though how much could an opponent really gain from the first or second practice of the year -- holding up a cell phone to video looks far different than typing a text. Once again, media folks including myself and other freelancers, are already accustomed to the NFL and general college standard of shooting video being limited to a five, 10 or 15-minute (at best) window established by the coaches. I recall reading and enjoying tweets from Dog Pound members during the spring game and sometimes over the course of an actual game. Just don't see the big difference in Carifio tweeting something like "Lombardi had the first unit moving steadily up the field" in real time, or doing that from his car 10 minutes after the entire practice is over.

Of course it looks different, but I'm guessing they have a no cell phone policy so they don't have to watch and police the crowd. If no one is allowed cell access, then it's not that hard. But if its okay to have a cell and do one thing but not the other, then you have to have people watching them. And what do you say? Hey, you were videoing and that's a no-no. No I wasn't. Yes you were.
And then what. Make them show you the phone so you can go through their pictures?
Nope. No cell phones. And that eliminates all that.
