Florida slavery text
Lots of discussion about the Florida slavery text that says in some cases, slaves learned skills that were of benefit to them after they were freed.

Duh.

The left has decided that they want to fight against the idea that slavery was beneficial.

I agree, but that's not what was said.

I think it clear that some slaves were trained in ways to benefit their masters, but were able to use those skills after emancipation to support themselves. Having skills as blacksmiths, stonemasons, carpenters, etc., would be of benefit no matter how or why the skills were acquired.

Well, duh, of course she doesn't want to discuss it. Might have to recognize that what she say he is saying is not what he is saying.

Harris: There were no redeeming qualities of slavery.”

DeSantis: enslaved people “developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit."

I don't see that as a redeeming quality of slavery, just as a fact that some people were better prepared to be emancipated than others. But it seems like the Left wants a fight on their own terms, and they are willing to lie to get it. Or maybe they have finally found a use for Harris.

Facts no longer matter.

The latest consequence of what we once referred to as "political correctness".

The ideological purity of what is said is what matters, not the truth of what is said.

Neither Lenin nor Goebbels (two of the ideological godfathers of modern "progressivism") could have said it better.

(They did in fact say it, many times and in dead earnestness, but I'm not sure they ever said it more succinctly than you did.)

I agree. I see it as far more a recognition of resourceful people who were able to make the best of a bad situation than as any kind of redeeming quality of slavery.

Then again, that may be the problem. This says there is a better way than sitting on your butt and living off handouts, and I can understand why the democrats want to suppress that message.

"Keep 'em dumb, keep 'em poor, keep 'em depending on handouts, and you'll keep 'em voting democrat."

More on the source of Florida's new black history standards

From the Washington Post, an obviously hostile source, yet there is some reporting.

He says" they should teach “the whole picture.”

Sounds like a good idea to me. But not to the Democrats.

He also criticized Vice President Harris — who blasted the new standards during visits to Florida this summer — as “following a script in the name of an ideological agenda.”

I think that is self-evident.
