RE: Pete Thamel: Arizona, ASU, & Utah in solidarity. 3 Leave Together or Staying
Some leaks of the deal make it sound like its $20million per team for up to 12 teams, but with other options that will drive it to $30million for the remaining members. (They are kicking in another $70million to cover the comcast fiasco, of which CU gets none (or anyone else who leaves) plus add enough members to get to 12, of which the new members would be 50% shares. )

I could see a case where 3 new members are are 50% media share for 5 years, but that the other conference distributions start rising immediately, so that after 3 years the new members are making around $20million each, even at 50 percent media share.

What I'm thinking as well. Smart move by Arizona State and Utah assuming Arizona was set to leave. This now guarantees them a seat at the Big XII table, rather than the possibility of being dumped by the Big XII in favor of Oregon and Washington. Further, it makes them the kingmakers of the Pac-12.

Basically---they signed nothing. They simply agreed to sign a GOR assuming a acceptable deal was placed before them. If they dont all agree on a deal---there is no GOR. Honestly, the agreement on a GOR never really meant much. It could matter if everyone agrees to accept the deal Kliavkoff negotiated ---otherwise it's little more than a nice press release.

Or possibly the eyes are for Oregon and Washington to the big12. Arizona, Arizona state and Utah are left in the pac12 in “solidarity”.

Alternatively, Kliakoff surprises everyone, with a resounding favorable deal.

Because Oregon and Washington arent overcome with the same solidarity.

huh? Arizona is #14 and then ASU & Utah make it 16, just what the Big 12 wanted. No UConn.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and state that the PAC stays together than that the BigXII plays at 13 next year.

This board falls for every headline. Utah is pretty publicly pro-PAC, and Utah and BYU mutually dislike eachother. So there are two options: either all three are together because they are staying in the PAC (which would explain why Colorado went alone as they probably knew this), or this story is bunk because AZ doesn't need to hitch its wagon to another State U, and has no reason or incentive to do that.

If this report is accurate, it’s huge news. It is likely that all 3 are thus on their way out.

That's about the best news the PAC has had in literally MONTHS.

Utah and ASU have been adamant about staying in the PAC. If this is true, then cross Arizona off the Big XII wish list.

I got a question, say the 3 leave or stay tomorrow. UW and UO are told in 1-2 yrs the the B1G will invite them. Can the deal be signed w/o UW and UO signing the GOR?

Maybe ASU and Utah are so pro-Pac because they got passed up for Arizona, Oregon, and Washington as #14, 15, and 16?

It is absolutely amazing people here can't see this is exactly what it means.

It was no secret Colorado was going to jump, and surely Colorado would have preferred go with all four, and if these three were all tied they could have gone last week.

no one wanted to bail, but may have to. No linear and low payouts of fake promises of unreachable benchmarks to make more. Paying for your own productions, pay back the P12 network money.

Yep. I'm certain all things being anywhere close to equal and none of those 3 would leave. All GK needs to do is present them a TV deal close on revenue and exposure, shouldn't be difficult...

Colorado left when they did for one of two reasons.

1. There was no contract. If that's the case then it would be utterly shocking if George K produced a suitable contract for the others within a week when no real framework existed at PAC media days. I mean, if you can put together a deal that quickly then why in the hell would it take months and months of strained debate to arrive at a figure?

2. There was a contract and the numbers just weren't nearly good enough. I think it's more the latter. There's no way these numbers have been up in the air for months. The leaders of the conference know what's on the table even if the presidents don't. More importantly, the PAC is not worth more today than it was in December and they've clearly been stalling. In fact, it took a school leaving to even push George K to reveal what they've known for quite some time.

The PAC is not in a good spot and it's not recoverable at this stage.

Best case scenario for the PAC is 4 members leave and they restock with a bunch of MWC schools.

The thing about long, long, longshots is if they pay off, they pay off big time.
