I saw this last night, the following tweet is what really got me. No one has offered specifics regarding what was said, and no other student remembered what was said or found anything offensive.

Between this and the recently failed hiring of a journalism professor (which led directly to the resignation of the A&M president), it’s not a good two weeks for A&M.

So we have had students expelled and faculty fired routinely for questioning the woke leftist narrative, and the first time someone is disciplined for a leftist comment and we are suddenly China?

What comment did Alonzo make that justifies that action within hours? Pretty radical reaction, I would expect (hope for?) an equally radical comment to engender that sort of reaction.

Edit: I’d also ask if you’ve been supportive of the firings you referenced or if you felt they crossed a line. If so, thoughts on this action?

I oppose the other firings, and for the record this one too. I just think the allegations surrounding this one have gone way over the top. I think that anyone who disciplines a student or faculty member for expressing political views should be prosecuted for violating the victim's constitutional right to free speech.

I am no fan of Dan Patrick, having worked with him when he was a sportscaster and having found him to be an arrogant, pretentious a-hole. I voted for Leticia van de Putte against him in 2014, because I had also worked with her on some consulting projects in San Antonio and found her to be a far more decent person. I have voted for Libertarians ever since, as I have found subsequent democrats to be far worse than Patrick.

The combination of Paxton and Patrick at the top of the political heap in Texas has taken a strong stomach to bear.

I dont have an issue with Paxton's suits vs the Feds, but the dirty self-dealing has taken a bunch out of that political capital for me.

Yes, other one, I know that wasn't the pretext cited by the university for firing them. The court and arbiter did not believe the universities' excuses.

My typical response to whaddaboutism comments by others has been, "Are you saying both were right, or are you saying both were wrong?" This looks wrong for aTm. Just like all those others were wrong. I'm willing to condemn them all. Are you?

The more I think about it, the more I believe Whaddaboutism is a legitimate counter to double standards and injustice.

some examples:

The white kid got probation? What about the black kid who got 12 years?

The male gets a salary of $X? What about the female who get 75% of that?

Every time we talk about unequal justice, whaddabout pops up.

There is a big difference between objective criteria based comparison with data, and an attempt to deflect 'the same actions you all do' as an implied form of justification.
