Didn't know there were a bunch of preseason NFL games that took place at Legion Field
I wonder if the city could get NFL preseason games to come to Protective Stadium.
How common are neutral site exhibition games?

Yep, I went to the Redskins/Falcons right after the Doug Williams super bowl. When Audrey Bruce was the Falcons #1 pick. It was packed out to see the Redskins fresh off the Super Bowl

Not as common recently, just the Hall of Fame Game in Canton

I remember a game being played at Legion Field in the early 1990s. I think it was the Falcons-Redskins. (Hope that didn’t offend anyone).

I'm guessing that was the last time a NFL preseason game (Redskins v. Falcons) was played in Birmingham

Likely the story of his blocking the Dolphins move to Birmingham.

There isn’t any sort of benefit coming to Alabama right now either. This state cares about college ball.

Quote:“I really have total love and respect for UAB and what they’ve done for this town,” said Tom Cosby, who worked for the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce for 35 years. “Even despite all the years I worked on the peripheries of trying to get NFL football in here, I think UAB is our ticket. From a Chamber of Commerce perspective, here in the Deep South, you’ve got to have a football team if you’re really going to grow your enrollment. When (UAB) killed football, the enrollment maybe was around 18,000. And since they brought it back, it’s grown to 22,000.
“… As Bear Bryant famously said ‘in Alabama, it’s kind of hard to rally around a math class.’ Even though the UAB students don’t support their team the way I wish they would, the fact that it’s there gives them something. The center holds with a football team here in the Deep South. And without it, it doesn’t.”

I wish Alabama would rally around a math (or reading) class
