Anyway, the full amount is going to be $650 million. There has to be enough for both with all that money.

The Pyramid ended up being built on the cheap & few of the promises made were kept.

Dover built the elevator. The city ended up not paying for it, so they never installed it.
Good Ol Sidney.

Don't go laying the problems with the pyramid on Sidney.

The final design was not his but that of a to be remain unnamed political connected family.

If his original design and capacity was used we would've never had to build the Forum.

there was no getting the Pyramid up to NBA standards...just wasn't going to happen.

So Nascar guy likes Sidney Schlickster? Typical lol

Not sure, think I'll go with the "back of the envelope" math by a journalism major.

Agree.
Folks are acting like it's all going to the FEF. Sexton mentioned part of the approval was because they want Memphis in a power conference. Giving all the money to FEF would not satisfy that wish.
Also, maybe the University doesn't have to pony up any $$ for the renos, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have to foot some of the bill.

Well hopefully that's not an apples to apples comparison. It's my understanding this money was, in part, to upgrade the Liberty bowl. I mean come on the fracken Liberty bowl was built on about the same day the Mid-South coliseum was built. 60 years ago. Imagine that. And there hasn't been a substantial upgrade since. The whole thing is pretty ridiculous in my opinion.

It's almost as if he's lobbying for the grizzlies to get, at a minimum, the lions share of that 350 million.

Well, there was that significant expansion constructed in 1988.

I'm not talking about "improvements" that make an old antiquated Liberty bowl a bigger old antiquated Liberty bowl. I think we're all talking about improving the exterior of the Liberty bowl to make it look more appealing. The concourse, the bathrooms, the concessions, disability access, and modernize the seating. Just a few...

Grizz might be like everyone else seems to be now. I can’t count the # of people lately who have either recently moved away, in the process of moving away, or saying they want to get out of the Memphis area. It’s almost everyone you talk to says that these days.

He’s only pointing out the obvious… in a negotiation between the Grizz & the UofM, the university has far less leverage.

You can count me and my brother in that number of folks moving away. Lifelong West Tennesseans and 40+ year Memphian/Shelby Countians, but now we call Florida home as of May this year. I also know of several more who are looking to move away as well.

The echo-chamber of 92.9 is talking ad nauseum about it.

The column seems to take the leap of...since Strickland visited Indy, then that's EXACTLY how we're going to renovate FEF...That's a big leap.

And I don't think most of the characters on 92.9 understand bond financing and the tax incentives involved.

SEems like the column and article were written to give 92.9 something to talk about.

Sure, but there are still other 'obviouses' that you can focus on depending on the point you want to advance. You can start your column by saying the University of Memphis isn't going anywhere. In essence what Memphis needs or wants really doesn't matter all that much. Or choose to focus on the obvious need for a major Liberty bowl upgrade. Or the even more obvious statement that if we don't improve the Liberty bowl significantly we all can kiss any chance of joining a p5 conference goodbye.
