The American Athletic Conference has announced that its 2023 Football Media Days will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 24-25 at Live! By Loews Arlington Texas.

UAB will represented by HC Trent Dilfer, QB Jacob Zeno, and LB Jackson Bratton.

Preseason Rankings will be published soon and AAC ranking will be available next week.

The Tampa Bay Times listed their preseason rankings. I'm not as upset as being chosen next to last right above Charlotte, I am upset that they called us Alabama Birmingham twice. Did the same with UTSA (Texas San Antonio) yet called everyone else, including Charlotte, their preferred names.

So new (or renewed) rivalry against the South Florida Cows.

Matt Baker is a solid dude. I am a Tampa Bay Bucs fan and have followed him for a while for that. I gave him a heads up on the UAB name and hopefully it sticks with him.

I understand some of the doubts but the idea that UAB is just going to fall off the map and be terrible is just idiotic. Some in the media are letting their disdain for how Dilfer got the job cloud their vision.

This has been the best, most consistent team in C-USA since 2017. It is a handful of plays from playing in 5 consecutive championship games. It darn near played for the championship in its first year back. It lost 5 games by one possession in 2022, three on the last play of the game. It should have beaten UTSA, the team everyone else is drooling over, in 2021 and maybe even 2022. It blew out North Texas, a team people are calling a darkhorse. And please stop with the tougher competition — UCF, Cincinnati and Houston, yes. I am not sure the others are all that much if any better than the top 4-5 from C-USA. I know I definitely ain’t afraid of them considering bad UAB teams competed with them back in the day.

Dilfer may or may not be able to coach at this level, I get the doubts, but c’mon, it isn’t that big of a stretch to think UAB could win the league this year. The cupboard isn’t bare.

What else can he write that isn't either regurgitating the previous article or back tracking? I'm not caping for the guy, but I've just learn to accept any Al.com beat writer as is.
