OT - NY Times shuts down its sports department
The New York Times announced today they’re getting rid of their sports department, and will completely rely on coverage from The Athletic (which they own anyway).

Sports journalism as we used to know it is nearly dead.

You might say the same of sports, as we used to know it.

And, it’s not OT, as NYT is I recall the only* publication or poll to rank Rice Football in their national top 25 for the past 60 years.

RE: OT - NY Times shuts down its sports department
The NY Post (regardless of the politics of the ownership) has long had the better tri-state sports coverage compared to the NYT. They cover everything from the pro teams to HS basketball, like a local newspaper should. IMO, they also do far better city/metro reporting, seemingly always breaking the news of the latest local politician to get ensnared in some type of corruption.

That being said, I stick to the NYT when it comes to DC/International Affairs/etc.

As if being a newspaper without comics wasn't lame enough!

Le Anne Schreiber, BA 1967, was sports editor of the Times, the first such female for a major paper.
She was later deputy editor for the Times Book Review and ombudsman for ESPN.

A few years ago, the Thresher named her the all-time powderpuff player.
