Supermarket robbed; fires employee
Supermarket employee fired for recording 3 men stealing $500 in laundry detergent
Quote:A Colorado supermarket employee was fired after he recorded three men stealing approximately $500 worth of laundry detergent from the store on Father’s Day.
Santino Burrola, the King Soopers employee, was alerted to a theft in progress at the store and the first thing he thought to do was pull out his phone and record it.
“When I looked there was already a guy halfway headed out with a food cart full of laundry detergents and scent boosters and what have you,” Burrola told CBS Colorado. “My first instinct, record.”
As Burrola, a former military police officer, walked out of the store, the three thieves hurried to load up a black Chevy Trax, one opening the doors, another throwing a basket full of items into the back seat, and another struggling to unload the full shopping cart.

Quote:The supermarket chain around the Rocky Mountains is a subsidy of the Kroger Company, which Burrola said has a policy against employees chasing thieves or intervening in a theft.
I guess the above is the basis for the termination. My guess is that's there for liability purposes.

Its going to get to a point where these stores will require you to lock yourselves in a closet or else be fired

The same thing happened last week at a Dollar General store down the road. I think it was two guys had two shopping carts loaded down with Tide. No one got fired but someone did record them putting the Tide into their car.

My guess is some time in the past an employee of some company tried to stop a shoplifter, got injured, and then sued the employer. This is the reason so many employers now have the "don't interfere" policy. It's to protect the employer, financially, wrapped up in a nice little bow of protecting the employee, imo.

He didn’t chase them or intervene — he recorded the scene. Plus, these ‘no intervene’ retail policies eventually backfires and have diminishing returns as it only encourages more theft as word spreads and eventually the theft is so bad that the store closes down because the losses becomes too great. It also breeds crime around the store where employees don’t feel safe….see SF and Chicago

How long before lib boards require their employees to pack the thieves bags for them?
Then the libs will complain about corporate greed making prices so high rather than you paying twice as much to cover for the amount getting stolen.

My neighborhood Big Lots took another tact. They installed devices on every shopping cart that allows store employees to point at the cart and the device locks up the front wheels.
I was talking to the manager and he said they had shoplifters who tried to run out the door with a cart loaded down with merchandise. He said he waited until they got a good running start then locked up the front wheels. The manager said they just about launched the thief over the cart.
I would love to see that happen in person.

Oh no, I can't believe it. Danes?!
Why detergent? Do they use it to make drugs? I don't do drugs so I don't know, unless blood pressure pills count.
