I also don't know if this is realistic but if I were the Gulf South I'd see if Univ. of Mobile was interested in moving over from NAIA. Great natural rival for UWA. Again only if UWF & VSU leave for DI.

To me, this feels fairly generous as well. I doubt non Big East teams were paying Carver Bible College anywhere near that much, and some people speculated they were just raking in the money.

Just though people might enjoy seeing the number in print, because I feel like we’re all left to guess most of the time. It’s kind of a “behind the scenes” aspect of the sport we aren’t often privy to.

I’m also a UM alum. I got my master’s degree there. I’d be happy to help you keep a thread going here. The GSC should have another great football season ahead.

And we’ll see if Ferris State can do it again.

Per d2football.com, I actually do have an account over there, but when I try to get a new password, nothing happens!!!
Me too. It was my 1st sports message board, like 2006. I forgot my password. The owner Brandon, NW Missouri St. fan called me once to talk about D-II vs D-I.

Kentucky Wesleyan right now is cutting expense on sports. I think they might be the next school to drop down to the NAIA. There are not enough schools close by for them in Kentucky which is one of the reasons.

Augusta moved to D-II after 1991 season. I remember them playing for Big South conference title in 1991.

Armstrong Atlantic was the one that dropped to D-II in 1987

Possibly. I emailed Dr. Stewart III, Montevallo's president about that possibility.

I have no insight into the situation at Montevallo but I don’t see them moving up to D1. They are fairly small and I don’t know what conference they would join. The ASUN is the only conference they are really in the footprint of and I don’t think they’d be a good fit unless the football members all left.

I could see us (Montevallo)in the Big South, ASUN,or the SoCon. I don't foresee all the football teams leaving, but in truth, you never know. I could see Montevallo moving to D1 though; just have to find the right conference, IMO.

University of Illinois and/or Illinois State must mine the state of Alabama for basketball talent, because that is all that the University of Montevallo would affect going to D1 from D2. Montevallo has no football program, and does not wish to have one. However, participating in March Madness would be very appealing to Montevallo, IMO, as would going to the College World Series in baseball, IMO.

RE: D2 News & Notes
Saw my contact again today (who I see once in a while) with connections to Valdosta State. (They’re related to the AD.) Got my annual confirmation that VSU is not planning on moving to D1. I probed a little more about why, especially with the recent GSC defections and I was told that they simply cannot afford it. I was told that in order to move up they’d need to add two sports and they don’t have the budget for it. I personally believe this because I know people who are with the athletic department who are being moved out because of budget cuts. Also, they see playing in a HS stadium as a barrier to moving to D1 (personally I’m not sure why, but I’m just quoting).

I also got the nugget that 2 of the newly joining members are planning on starting football in a year. (It may have been discussed on here before, but I’m not sure which personally.)

There is a rumor on the D2 board about MIAA expanding by 4 - Midwestern, West Texas A&M, two others.
