The announcement from Bridgestone Arena is a bit deceiving because I doubt they will play there unless they have an arrangement with the city to use it in coordination with the Predators. Available ice time is very scarce in Nashville from a lack of rinks, so I am curious how they are going to make it work. Good for TSU, I am glad they are finding their own niche in a crowded college landscape in middle Tennessee.

Speaking of Nashville being good for hockey, it sounds like there is a very good chance that we will land MLB in the next round or two of relocation/expansion. That will also thrive here.

I'm sure they will find opportunities to get TSU on the ice at Bridgestone. Maybe a game or two during the preseason, when the Preds use it for split squad scrimmages and the like and follow that up with a TSU club game against MTSU or whoever (do they even still have a club team?). I wouldn't be shocked to learn the Predators want to renovate Centennial and turn one of the rinks into a small arena, like what the Stars have with the Comerica Center in Frisco (2 sheets, one a barebones rink and the other a 3500 seat arena).

Regardless, this gets people who otherwise would have no reason to talk about hockey talking about hockey. That's good for the game, and the more teams do to reach out in their local communities and engage people in the sport, the better off the sport will be.

They're already pretty loved in the area, that would only boost it.

They've been doing that for years, actually. Fairly early on, they created Greater Nashville Area Scholastic Hockey (GNASH) to launch high school programs in the region. It has worked pretty well with area private schools and with schools in Williamson County, where the money is, but it's still a pretty intense commitment for schools in places like Murfreesboro. They're heavily invested in youth hockey in the region all the way down to little kids, though I don't know of any equipment grants or anything they've done recently on that front. Regardless, they already do a lot, and connecting with colleges in the area to get more opportunities to keep those youth players in the game longer makes sense as the next step in their outreach program.

A spot-on assessment from Mr. Consistency.

I'm very glad to hear that about the Nashville area.

There was a thing around here for a while, known as "The Children of Bobby" - everyone and their uncle wanted to be him. The number of ice rinks around the state exploded, and child participation grew massively. I'm hoping a hometown hero for Nashville can come along and have the same impact, and the youth programs and partnership with the NHL only improve the odds on that.

Nashville offers multiple hockey-centric facilities (including at Centennial Sportsplex in the West End corridor). There are also two Ford Ice Centers (one in Bellevue and the other in Antioch)

Nashville has become a "hockey city" in some respects, with our history with the sport dating to the mid-1960s (when we got minor league hockey).

The Preds and TSU will figure out a practice arrangement/facility, and it will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Is that where the old Bellevue Mall was?

Yes, indeed.

My ex worked there back when it still was a mall and had stores 03-wink

Have you seen all the buildings that have replaced the mall and redefined the site? It's very different (and for the better overall).

I haven't been to Nashville in years - need to visit though

I did do a google map tour 03-wink

Google Earth Virtual Reality is great. Just have to cap the time before you get motion sickness.

Google (Maps, Earth, 3D, etc.) can be addictive. I also spend a good bit of time watching on youtube drone-taken aerial video of cities.
