The sticking point that some schools want the deal done now before adding schools. The media deal is more than the Big 12 if the PAC 12 schools add SDSU and SMU, but without them? The deal would be less then Big 12. Something have to budge on that front. The stubborness of some schools are hurting them getting the deal than they helping them.

There is no deal , because no deal is being negotiated right now. espn and pac12 are at a stalemate. Pac12 want a number that espn thinks is too high. Pac12 is waiting it out, thinking they have the upper hand with west coast late night window.

This isn’t being resolved anytime soon

Personally, I don't see the B1G going after more western schools until the ACC GOR is terminated.

1. SDSt and SMU added.
2. Colorado and Arizona join Big 12.
3. Arizona State follows, but Utah stays.
4. UConn rounds up Big 12 to even numbers
5. PAC backfills with Tulane.

Don’t think AZ State follows as they think they are primed for a Big invite and won’t sign the Big 12 GOR. Utah and BYU are a market overlap on not a big market.

RE: What does the Conference of Champions look like once the smoke clears?
I think the nPAC stays together, nobody defects, deal comes in a bit below the recent nB12 deal.

I don't think the nPAC backfills with anyone. IMO all the schools out there would hurt the TV deal on a per-school basis not help it.

But these are not super-confident predictions, if I'm wrong about defections and backfill, won't surprise me. IMO we haven't had a lot of information to go on.

This is also what I think happens. However, it is also what I want to happen, so I’m a little biased lol

(06-27-2023 09:06 AM)PeteTheChop Wrote:  A sixpack of questions:

1. Who among the 12 members remain(s)? The teams that are leaving announced their departures a year ago (USC and UCLA). Other PAC members are rebuilding.

2. On tap: Pac-8? Pac-10? Pac-12? Pac-14? Pac-16? It will remain the PAC-12. USC & UCLA will be replaced with SDSU & SMU.

3. Which schools says yes to a "New Pac" invite? Any G5 program would accept a new PAC invite. The new B12 opened the door (about 20 months ago) to a CFP windfall to any school that gets promoted from the G5 to P5.

4. Is Corporal Kliavkoff still the commissioner? Yes

5. How long does the victory lap last for Yappy and the Big XII Fan mafia? At least 5 more years…basically until the B12 & PAC media contracts have to be renegotiated.

6. What will be Wilner, Canzano and Mandel's next hill to die on? After backfilling, they’ll push for Alliances and collaboration with other P5 conferences. The PAC members will now be more willing to separate P5 athletics from other D1 programs.

I hate to sound like a Kremlin propagandist, but all the necessary actions have been taken.
