When it comes time to award other minorities their very own "National" holiday, I wonder if the Native Americans will choose to commemorate Custer's Last Stand.
Interesting use of quotations.
It was intentional. Most of our nation did not not do much to "celebrate" this holiday. I don't see it as a "national" holiday.
How many Americans "celebrated" Columbus Day before it was established as a "national" holiday? How many "celebrated" Labor Day?

Man, you and Lad are really having a big day of imagining what you thought I said.
I think most people who are not of African ancestry did little or nothing to celebrate.
As for Columbus Day, if he was bad enough to have his statue toppled, his holiday should be abolished.
What I found intriguing was the establishing of a local event as a National holiday. Kind of like establishing Alamo Day as a national holiday. And I bet more people would celebrate Alamo Day after it was established than before - just common sense.

Getting rid of slavery (in an official capacity) didnt have national significance? I’d say that it affects everyone and not just a “subset.”
And the date that was chosen to celebrate it is an odd thing to get hung up on, IMO. Didn’t they pick 12/25 for Christmas since it was already a pagan holiday or some such? Had nothing to do with when Christ was actually born.

The bolded is weirdly off-topic in terms of why these days became national holidays.
You implied that maybe Juneteenth should not be a national holiday because it's not like a lot of Americans took time to celebrate the day prior to it becoming a national holiday.
I say that you implied this based on this quote from you: "Most of our nation did not not do much to "celebrate" this holiday. I don't see it as a "national" holiday."
With that in mind, I asked about other national holidays which were likely not celebrated by many Americans prior to them becoming national holidays. How did I imagine what I thought you said?

Well, I would say it did have national significance, same as the passage of the Income tax had national significance, or any number of other acts passed by Congress. But if we must pick a date, why not the date of the end of the Civil War rather than the date of of an obscure announcement in a minor port a long ways off? At least the end date of the CW is a national event.
I wonder what we would call this holiday if the ship to Galveston had been even a day later. Junieth? What would we call it if the winds had been favorable? The Ides of June?
I do not think I am "hung up" on this particular date, anymore than I am "hung up" on the date of Christmas or Passover. Just felt it was odd to have a national holiday based on a local event. Just like I think it odd to call the place we park a driveway and the place we drive a parkway. Not a big deal at all, except some here are trying to make it one.

Because I never said or implied Juneteenth should not be a holiday. You can make it a holiday if you want. You just did. Heck, if you want to make AOC's birthday a national holiday, go for it. I just made the observation (here, again, for about the tenth time) that it seems odd to have a national holiday for a local event, and that outside of the AA community, I don't think it is widely celebrated. I don't celebrate Veterans Day in the same way as many veterans. I don't celebrate President's Day the many communities on the Tex-Mex border do. I don't celebrate Labor Day in the way many others do. Probably the holiday that is most nearly universal is the Fourth of July.
But I don't care enough to continue with your imagined beliefs. I don't need to defend what is in your mind but not in my words.

And this is the point that I'm discussing. The fact that it wasn't widely celebrated somehow being meaningful when deciding to make it a national holiday. See Labor Day. See Columbus Day.

Imagined beliefs? I keep pointing out your VERY words to which I am responding. But feel free to pick up your ball and carry it home. I'm sorry that I am politely responding to something that you posted, however you can't seem to have a reasonable back-and-forth about things that you post.
