That said, Charlotte has deep pockets for this hire, but would be a rebuild and TK loves his staff and most of them are not trying to relocate. Sounds like he will stay, we'll see.
After Gaber did her best to screw up UT, going after our coach certainly fits.
Would be interested to know what you think she did.....much of the damage (and current budget and enrollment situation) was built during the inept reign of Jacobs
Her inattention to the medical college was appalling. Good riddance. She was terrible and in way over her head and ignored what was beyond her experience or competency.
In all fairness there is not a large pool of potential college presidential candidates for UT that come with strong successful records and lengthy experience running both an academic institution plus medical hospital (even Postel has more expertise with medical center administration-yet be seen if his lack of academic experience hurts UT's mission)...plus UTMC was in decline before she arrived -when a long time medical administrator was UT President - and frankly a major factor...granted not the only one but it was significant...in its 2020 survival as the unexpected influx of state/federal pandemic funds. I agree her tenure at UT has its faults..but there were issues that preceded her arrival that created challenges-many of which (including UTMC) remain due to factors that Gaber or Postel struggle with addressing.

When Postel retires, which could be soon, UT needs to take a hard look at internal candidates. No need to spend huge amounts of money for a head hunter service.

He's been here just 3 years, plus is just in his early/mid 60s - does not seem he will be leaving or retiring any time soon. And no major college should ever ever ever limit itself to internal candidates only for the position of President..only way UT and any college of this size can move forward is by considering the best pool of candidates-and only a national search gets that. Besides its my understanding that UT is about to appoint a staff position to coordinate all executive level searches (dean and above) so as to no longer spend $100,000+ per search to a consulting firm for those search services. Over next year UT will have 5+ such searches and this new internal position will save plenty of $$$$$$.

The struggle I see with this notion is how can you pay that person enough to keep them? The salary ranges at those search firms and recruiters has to be way up there when you include placement commissions. (Wife is a recruiter). Nice idea but unless there is a sweetener for that person for each placement it’s a tough position to keep. Better plan night be to found a new firm and place in the alumni building that works primarily for UT but also other agencies. Thus a revenue source
