RE: The first P5 about to implode?
They can hold it together, but gonna be looking at 12mil a year contracts, not 20+ they were going for.

With the B1G announcement, it inevitable if not yet announced. The only thread left to be determined is the fate of the remaining PAC schools, particularly Stanford & Cal (knowing WSU & OSU will just accept anything) & could it involve the AAC & MEMPHIS.
Certainly seems inevitable, but the wording was very specific. I do feel Memphis may be getting more attention from the PAC, considering current events, but I'm not sure that's the best option for us at this point.
I also don't see how Kliavkoff survives this.
But much value in the PAC left besides the name & NCAA credits.
For us? None, imo. Who wants to be in a conference with 4 schools that are over 2,000 miles with us that weren't good while in the Pac 12, and now will almost certainly be much worse without USC and Oregon funding them? Not me.
Also, is it too late to kick out Charlotte and Rice?
Apparently we do, if you believe we have submitted an application to join the PAC.
I'm just suggesting the remaining PAC 4, specifically Stanford & Cal do not want to associate with the MWC but they might find it acceptable to associate with the AAC with its AAU & R1 schools. Play divisions, maybe add two MWC schools (SDSU & 1 more). Merge the entire AAC under the PAC name. No exit fees for AAC members. And that conference should get some $$ bump across the board with coast to coast games - be a top 5 conference. And make Aresco commissioner.
I'd also think this would get ESPN attention for that $$ bump to be a linear deal.

The circumstances are very different now. We applied prior to the mass exodus. A merger would make sense if only for the name and A5 status, but otherwise, it would be a questionable move.

I mostly agree with your points. But like the other guys arguing 4 x 20 or 3 x 24 conferences, which imo will never happen, you haven't adjusted to the new landscape.
There is a Power 2 with soon to be 34 schools. And eventually, probably a few more like Notre Dame and FSU. And then there is everybody else.
Why do we care what Oregon St, Washington St, Cal and Stanford want? Because they have a now meaningless "PAC" label attached to their league? Without the LA schools and UW and Oregon, they have no value anymore. Just like Rice without Texas and the old Southwest, or USF without the old Big East. Without the already lesser Pac 12 money, they will be even worse in the future. They are on a lesser playing field than Memphis, because at least Memphis is a threat at any time to be a basketball power.

Frankly, I thought it more questionable when it was known to be a streaming deal.

I didn't like the streaming aspect, but ~$20M > $7M and it would have been a legitimate A5 conference. As it stands there is now no media deal for the PAC and the only thing that would make sense would be to either absorb the best of the PAC or merge with them, taking their name.

Agree but with an ESPN (may Fox too) linear deal. I think we could double our payout with that deal.

I can't speculate as to value, but I would hope that a PAC4 + AAC + a couple from the MWC (e.g. SDSU, CSU) reformed under the PAC name would garner more than the current AAC media contract. Avoiding AAC exit fees would make this possible and the revenue increase might make it palatable enough to cherry pick from the MWC. Of course linear is ideal, but I'm unsure how much money ESPN or FOX would be willing to throw around.

They are losing the PAC as we know it, so there should be some $$ available at a discount.

ESPN is NOT going to do anymore deals for a while. They’ve shot their wad paying for the NFL, NBA and SEC

If you believe some of the boards ESPN has had a standing bid open for PAC content.

For college football, ESPN and Fox are pretty set for a while.
Big 12 took the best offer they could get. Pac 12 hesitated, asked for too much. And were left without a deal.
There will be a 30 for 30 one day about the Pac 12's rapid demise.

Here is some mounting evidence that linear TV is still on the decline. It just got under 50% for the first time. College sports better figure out streaming soon...

Semiserious question - What does that application look like?
Is it some preprinted form like you fill out at 15 when you apply to flip burgers at McDonalds?
Is there a section for your previous conference affiliations and reasons for leaving them?
Do they ask for references?
Do you have to, legally, let them know if your institution has ever been charged with NCAA violations?

You're ignoring the new wad that materialized with the $1.5B deal with PENN.
