But they are R1 with a $450M research budget which fits the PAC academically and with good athletics facilities. If they don't get in the PAC then perhaps the B12 would take them.
After SDSU and SMU then I could see these schools being targets but not until 2030:
Kansas
Houston
Tulane
Rice
UNLV would have to work on things athletically to get a look. They've never had much success in football. Nice location, but a lot of options for spending dollars to go to sports events there.
Why would Houston & Kanas leave for less money?
Why do you assume it would be less money in 2030? Might not even be less money now. But, Kansas wants to be associated with AAU schools which the B12 lacks.
What Kansas would prefer is for the Big 12 to get within range of Big 10/SEC money. If that isn't possible then we want to go to the Big 10. If the Big 10 doesn't invite us first then we would go to the SEC.
Don't see the B1G offering Kansas, Either the PAC or the ACC might, however.
The PAC will still be waiting on their media deal to be finalized lol. I don't see KU leaving for the ACC when half the conference already has one foot out the door.
Who knows on a Big 10 or sec invite.

SDSU is a great school and growing rapidly but I just don't see the BIG12 adding SDSU until after they try for Colorado, Arizona, ASU and Utah.
On a different note I'm confident that BIG12 fans would rather add SDSU over UTAH.
Both the PAC and the B12 want to be in the SoCal market. It is the largest market available that does not have a P5 school. SDSU is likely going to be in the PAC as long as they don't collapse. I think the likelihood of a collapse is very, very small. It would take the B1G taking two more teams now, and they seem to be standing pat. for now. Multiple presidents don't want more expansion west until, at least they see how it works out with USCLA. Also, USC doesn't want either UW or UO to join them, especially the latter.
I wouldn't be so certain about the big 12. They have a strong presence and a decent presence in Florida already. SoCal is far from the center of mass of the big 12, or any of their schools for that matter. If they add Utah and the Arizonas then that's different, you almost have enough in Utah, AZ and SDSU to start a Western Region. Throw in CU, Texas Tech and probably OSU and that's an 8 team West.

Really? Utah is a coFlagship AAU Brand Football team. They've won the Pac the past 2 years. Athletically, they probably fit better with the big 12 than any other Pac school. They're one of the prizes of the Pac. Even with BYU in the state already, you guys would add them in a heatbeat. SDSU is a good school, but they're still g5 because nobody, including the big 12, wanted them until recently.

Utah to the B12 is, at most, a lateral move athletically. The growth potential is limited. SDSU to a P5 conference is an elevations, similar to what Utah did when they joined the PAC 12 years ago. Not saying they are not a good add, but y'all think of current, and not future, value. One of the reasons why the B1G isn't hot and heavy on UW and UO is because they don't believe their value will grow substantially.

No, the PAC won't be waiting on their media deal and a second no to Kansas going to the B1G or SEC. Way too many better options for them before they would even consider Kansas.

What? Says who? You? I get that you have an agenda, too get everyone to believe SDSU is going to the PAC but you're starting to sound like dear old DavidSt with comments like this. Be better.

There's no "y'all" here, my school left town 13 years and headed East. The only reason I'm concerned about the big 12 and Pac today is that they're where the action is. Eventually, that action will move on and so will most of us.
