Completely agree
Because the Southland is garbage in every other sport whereas the WAC is not. In men’s basketball, the RPI was 11th, compared to 30th for the SLC. The winner of the SLC gets the play-in game more often than not. The WAC is consistently a 12/13 seed.
UCA have been a powerhouse in football, men's basketball and baseball. Southland have not been that strong in 2 of the 3 sports. Moving to another conference like the A-SUN which showed schools like Mercer, FGCU, North Florida, Belmont, etc had some success in men's basketball? Then they could recruit the same players to get back what was lost.
Define "Powerhouse"
Powerhouse is what I mean for how many times a school was successful in any sports. 3 NAIA National championship and many times post season playoffs in NAIA. They continued that to D2 and had some at D1.
29 conference championships from NAIA to D1.
17 post season men's championship for basketball with some runner ups.
2 men's soccer championships.
12 post season baseball world series at all levels.
Women's basketball have been very good at times.
They were one of the only few who found success who moved up from D2.

Southland just lost lllinois-Chicago to the MAC (for men’s tennis). They have five full members plus Bryant and NJIT now for the sport.

The OVC should have snapped up UIC and started Men's Tennis
They have 5 affiliate members in the Horizon
Easter Illinois, Lindenwood, Southern Indiana, Tennessee State and Tennessee Tech
Horizon would have still had their 4 full members plus Belmont and Chicago State.

So by "17 post season men's championship for basketball" you mean conference championships right? Because winning 17 NCAA, NIT, CIT, CBI or whatever post season tournaments there are would be insane regardless of Classification.
And they've been to the college world series 12 times at each level??? That is insane. Not many teams have even been to the big CWS that many times much less the lower levels as well.
I think your comment about the womens basketball really cements them as a powerhouse though. Being very good at times is beyond impressive.

I mean in the championship tournaments where they were runner ups a few times. Several final fours and many top 8 appearances at the NAIA and D2 levels. Getting them to FBS might change the equations. Some of the top names that came out of Central Arkansas were Charlie Strong, Scottie Pippin, Wes Gardner MLB, Gil Gerard (actor and former football player at one time in college), Nate Bowie NBA, Dave Burnette NFL, Curtis Burrow NFL, Monte Coleman NFL for the Redskins, Willie Davis NFL, James Dickey basketball coach, Jacob Ford NFL, Gavin Stone MLB and Mike Norville head football coach for Florida State University.
Strong, Pippin, Gardner Coleman, Dickey and Norville are the bigger names. All these people I named played on those winning teams that I talked about.

Can you come up with something they have done in the last 20 years as a D1 school. Their football team can't get past the second round of the playoffs and I don't know if any of their other teams have won a D1 postseason game. They left the NAIA 30 years ago, Pippen was there 40 years ago a year after I started at Tech (I saw every game he played at Tucker), I guess I played against Charlie Strong in 1982 and 1983 (I also played against Todd Graham in 1983), Gil Gerard was there 60 years ago. That place a powerhouse; maybe in the 1980s but far from it now in D1.
Pippen's 4 years - no national tournament:
1983-84 (14-18, 6-12 AIC) - no postseason
1984-85 (13-13, 11-7 AIC) - lost 1st round District Tourney
1985-86 (23-6, 17-3 AIC) - lost 3rd round District Tourney
1986-87 (23-6, 19-1 AIC) - lost 2nd round District Tourney

D2 schools would be either Arkansas Tech, Central Oklahoma or in Lone Star Conference.
D1 schools that they could be eying are The SWAC west schools, UTRGV, Tarleton State, ACU and SFAU. Maybe trying to lure UCA back with UAPB in tow.
I think as it currently stands it would be a challenge to get more Texas WAC schools to jump over. SFA and Tarleton are aiming for FBS (probably C-USA) rather than what would be a downgrade in most people's eyes going to the Southland. UTRGV maybe the exception but the issue for them is lack of travel partner due to being so far south in the state. Get someone like TAMU-Kingsville from the Lone Star and that could convince them.
The SWAC schools might be more attainable. Prarie View A&M and UAPB. Do they want to leave a conference they are comfortable in though? I'm not sure they do.
Moving onto the D2 front. If Central Oklahoma want to move up they are certainly a possibility but I could see the Summit being interested in them too so there could be competition there. Not sure how ready or keen Midwestern St or Angelo State are at the moment but I know they've talked about it in the past. They could also be options for the WAC who have not looked to add anymore D2 call-ups the past few years but with Utah Tech and Tarleton State completing their transition period at the end of this season they might be more receptive to adding a couple schools in the near future.

UCA was winning in football and maybe baseball, but went to losing in recent years. They gave Oklahoma State a scare a few years back and did beat an FBS team.

Yes, WAS. A powerhouse does not give Oklahoma State a scare and get one win against Arkansas State.
