If you want to go that route (And I think Cal's a stretch, but ok...)
I'm not sure that the SEC would want to jump that far out-of-footprint

I realise Cal is a stretch for now. The UC Board of Regents took its best shot at getting Cal admitted only a few months ago and the B1G apparently supplied a wish list of things to fix first. Hence the 'exit tax' on UCLA.
Maybe Arizona's a stretch, too. Both could park with Washington State and Oregon State for now and catch another wave later.
I don't see New Mexico or Arizona as outside the SEC footprint as it's currently defined. It all depends on what they're up to. After adding Missouri, who knows?
The main liability concern in getting any sweeping new arrangement to work is everyone feeling taken care of. That takes a little traffic directing.

The SEC's gonna do what the SEC's gonna do lol
I just think that the SEC isn't really going to commit to expansion until they see what is going on with the ACC.

SEC isn't waiting or reacting. The SEC will simply act when media brings them a deal that gives them a big raise.
