News Dump Friday
Summer is starting.
Today is a classic "news dump Friday".
As a bonus, it's a long weekend.

So, who quietly dumps what news about 3 pm today.

All Quiet on the Western Front.

I think Pac-12 collapse will drag on into June.

A good time for CU to post a Board Meeting's notice+agenda publicly. Item: "To discuss and vote on our athletic conference realignment."

The CCHA slipped a new head of officials out yesterday.*
The NCHC announced their head of officials is not returning.
Those options are off the board.

*They hired Marco Hunt. I wouldn't let him officiate a game of Yahtzee.
**My favorite Don Adam moment (earbuds strongly recommended).

Why the debt ceiling is raised, the country doesn't default, Banks breath a sigh of relief, networks which are heavily traded or invested relax a bit, and more money if available for rights packages.

Stuff gets rolling again.

No idea if it is true or not, but there is a rumor going around Twitter and the Iowa message boards that University of Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta may be out today. Announcement at 2pm CDT.

Whatever it is, it will likely be bad news. You don't usually dump good news on Friday afternoon.

Praise in public; punish in private.
Tuesday is "public"; Friday afternoon before a long weekend is "private".

Idiots like Fleugar spreading around that Colorado is ready to jump misread the words he said. The ADs have no say so on where a school is going.

"In a perfect world" implies a media deal offer high enough to keep Colorado in the Pac-12 has yet to be reached. Colorado's giving it more time, but they're running out of runway.

He basically just reiterated what DeStefano said the other day. "We'll stay if we get a decent media rights deal, if we don't then we have an offer for $31.6m on the table from the big 12".

CU is handling an incredibly awkward situation with as much grace as possible. It's not their fault that Realignment has hit them in the face. It's not their fault that the Pac's leaders have refused for 30+ years to add any of the very few viable candidates available to them. And I don't even think it's their fault that they left the big 12 in 2010, a whole bunch of us were eyeing the exits back then. Kind of like now in the Pac.

5 of us ended up finding better homes in nicer neighborhoods. CU is the only one that made a lateral, and now perhaps even backwards move. It would be hard to blame them if they eventually returned to the big 12, and it would be hard to blame them if decided to stick it out for one more subpar contract in the Pac if they hope that will increase their odds of a B1G invite down the road.

Depends on the relationship of the coaches/AD/President. Yes, the President has the vote, but many are career academics who rely on their athletics' leadership for advice on athletic-program matters. Also on their accountants, and marketing folk.

The AD at FSU said that he had been meeting about once a week with the FSU president and general counsel.

When he was asked by one of the regents about what would it cost to get out of the ACC, he deferred to the general counsel. Her answer? "That's an interesting question." She then went on to explain about the exit fee, and was asked whether that could be paid on an installment plan, and she said it could. I don't think that was implying that the ACC would work out a payment plan, but rather that the athletics department could get a loan from the university and pay it back over time. Nobody followed up with a question about the GOR, so she didn't volunteer it.
