Great idea, it will be a sellout in a climate controlled environment.

Obviously, this will make for a very busy Thanksgiving weekend at Ford Field and will require some adjustments to the regularly scheduled MHSAA Finals. Not only do the Detroit Lions always play home on Thanksgiving day, but the MHSAA Finals (eight divisions) take place at Ford Field on the Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving.

This would be the day after the Lions host a thanksgiving game. I wonder if they are going to try to capitalize off of that. (It’s also a heck of a lot warmer in that stadium at night than it would be outdoors)

So is this what is to be of the November night games going forward on NBC? MSU or perhaps UM would play a game there? Minnesota Gophers are another one. Would tOSU play in Indy? Indiana teams typically can't support a prime time November slot.

That was a nice snow game in 2021. Looks like they've already ruined any chance of that now.

So this is how they will address the night game issue?

That’s a good one for prime time in November, and it’s an excellent venue.

I still feel the week prior is an issue due to weather. Besides Minnesota, there are no other schools that can do this. Okay... so play a USCLA home game weekend before Thanksgiving in primetime on NBC. Maybe it's even the USC ND game every year in the event that game has to come off rivalry weekend for logistical reasons. But yeah, MSU/PSU can be your annual Black Friday game following NFL football, and you are set. It will never be UM vs tOSU on a neutral field. Indiana versus Purdue? Horrible. Wisconsin@Minn is the only other potential Black Friday game, and you'd have to alternate MSU/PSU with Wisconsin/Minnesota every year. It's just tough to sell those matchups on an annual basis.

From a network standpoint, I'd be a lot more comfortable with UO/UW on Black Friday as a potential flex game. They could also have USC vs UCLA on Friday night, but that's more of a Saturday primetime game (or keep ND@USC there). Then again, UO/UW have pretty big in-state rivalry games themselves if and when someone picks up the PAC12 contract.

If this becomes a trend, I never want to hear a northern school say "but come play us up here in November" to a warm weather school. The complaints, including tOSU, have been ridiculous.

I think is an acknowledgement that Thanksgiving weekend games aren't really for the students and never was, at least not in the Big Ten.

I wonder if this is a sign that if MSU ever ends up hosting a CFP playoff game, they will also move it to Ford Field.

Northwestern/Illinois annually at Wrigley Field or Soldier Field?

I think NBC probably needs 4-5 games in November so we have:

2023
MSU@ OS
Neutral field game PSU@MSU
Nebraska says they will play night games at home in November, but will they have a compelling game to show?

2024
ND@USC even years
potential USC/UCLA home game

There is no way a southern football team could adapt to playing in the northern BIG stadiums in November even if it was daylight. I have personally wiped snow off the bleachers on several occassions to watch a November football game.

The thing is, we will have NFL regular season games scheduled on the same day. They can't just book these venues in advance. Yes, they will know the NFL schedule in advance, but if Ford Field is unavailable, you don't have a lot of other options aside from Indianapolis. Minnesota may be too far from the host team.

Whole other topic, however.

Northwestern/Illinois annually at Wrigley Field or Soldier Field?

Ugh. Maybe

But when the Bears build their indoor stadium in Arlington Hts, then definitely NW-ILL should be played at the new Bears stadium on Thanksgiving weekend.

A typical Detroit area Thanksgiving includes about 5 inches of snow on the ground.

Should be a game vs FCS or G5 game.
