STR - Colorado eyeing Big 12
As usual with expansion rumors, take it with a grain of salt.
Big 12 expansion - CU
If this Colorado moves, and other Pac12 schools follow, then we can go head and shut the door on Memphis to the Big12. Now on the other hand, if CU does move, and they are the only one, then it would be ok but not ideal for us, since the Big12 would probably want to add in at least one more school to make it even. Then it becomes a dogfight between us, USF, and UNLV.
This combined with the news that Washington St has frozen budgets in the athletic dept, point to the PAC12 new deal not being as lucrative as the Big12 media deal. I personally hope not. A stronger Pac12 helps us more than a weak Pac12.

I mean they were better in the Big 12. That Texas pipeline dried up when they went to the PAC 12

I think its bogus. As a university Colorado would much rather be associated with PAC schools.

That reasoning is WAY overblown by people on social media and some talking heads. Especially since Colorado is having money issue and has no other home if the Pac-12 collapses. They can also still collaborate with Pac-12 schools without being in the conference, it happens all of the time. For example, Arizona and Oklahoma State collaborate academically.

They would be stupid to leave the PAC for the same money in a conference full of schools that aren't peers.

I can’t see it either. The PAC teams need a western conference. College football needs a western conference. The PAC still has an automatic bid and the conference just got much more competitive with the loss of USC. Both the BB and FB tournaments are in Vegas. There’s still a sense of belonging and commonality in the west.
They’d be giving up all of that, leaving their traditional footprint for road games in Orlando and Cincinnati. USC, UCLA, Texas and Oklahoma made more sense because they’ll be playing the best of the best. Still, look what happened to Nebraska. Or Missouri to an extent. West Virginia, Boston College, etc.
I don’t think the dollars will be significant enough to make a move, but what do I know. Maybe no one cares about that stuff anymore.

PAC10 has been a disaster for Colorado. Their fan base has been clamoring for a return to the Big12.

Not going back to a big twelve without Texas and Oklahoma, it’s a big difference

They’d no longer have their neighbor Nebraska or Missouri either. Replaced with long trips to West Virginia, UCF, Cincy and even the possibility of UConn (not that I’m buying that). I like where they are. More opportunities for championships.

I still believe the best hope for our Tigers is for the American to succeed. The loss of cinch, coogs, and ucf is a hit, but the addition of UTSA, UAB, and Boca along with three others seems to me to be about even steven in reality if not in the mediaverse. With improved production values for American games viewership could become very competitive with some of the P5 conferences. The American should have an automatic qualifier soon and when the tournament expands to 12 and 16 teams all of college football will become more competitive on the field if not in the mouths of the talking heads.

It appears the source that led to the article was a coach in the B12, so take it with a huge grain of salt.

They de-emphasized athletics and turned the money faucet off.
Conference affiliation didn't do that.

If that happens we can "shut the door on Memphis to the Big12"? That ship has sailed, crashed, and sank to the bottom of the ocean.
Just hope when the ACC needs some teams it isnt because the conference has become worse than the Big12.

It will be interesting to see how things shake out once Texas and Oklahoma leave.

So far no one has claimed to have heard anything from anyone associated with Colorado.
All the usual Big XII outlets are quoting each other to substantiate their story.

It’s nearly a done deal. Pac 10 is imploding.
