WSU freezes jobs due to “significant decrease in P12 revenue”

And the continuation of the tweet:

Quote:revenue distribution as result of overpayments from one of the conference media partners that must be resolved. Relocation of the Pac‑12 headquarters out of San Francisco exceeded budget projections as well. Additionally, WSU projects that Cougar Athletics exceeded its expenditures for the year due to inadequate documentation of revenues and expenses.”

It's gonna be even worse when they're in the MWC or the PAC-2 plus 10 or 12 MWC schools under the PAC name.

RE: WSU freezes jobs due to “significant decrease in P12 revenue”
Maybe P12 revenue is the last straw, but that athletic department already faced significant deficits and has for some time. Bill Moos and Elson Floyd built a lot, and then Floyd died, Moos left for Nebraska, and it turned out there wasn't nearly enough money to cover everything.

Possible dam break this week. Could Merchant’s tweet be the straw that breaks the camels back.

I just checked the Wazzu forum to see what they’re saying and there’s a PeteTheChop there with a thousand posts who’s a big Wazzu fan.

It’s crazy that all these fan bases have different PeteTheChop’s running around.

Oh, come on, that was pretty funny.

WSU has to be sitting on pins and needles right now. Just a few short years ago they were riding high with their Pirate King and his hilarious Pac Mascot comparisons. Now? They might be soon headed for the g5.

Rest in Peace Mike Leach. We hated playing you, but we loved listening to you speak.

edit: I wonder if the WSU AD is now on the hot seat? This can't reflect well on him.

OK, that makes it clearer. Washington State is facing debt issues. The athletic department is carrying debt and the cash infusion it would normally expect from the conference has been compromised by the Scott-era accounting issues there.

Sounds like something has been decided at the conference level about settling affairs that has a sharper short-term effect on member schools than many expected.

System president Kirk Schulz is ordering an audit and expects the Cougar athletic department to balance its books next year.

RE: WSU freezes jobs due to “significant decrease in P12 revenue”
Major Blow to the Pac Propaganda campaign.

Andrew Marchand was right about not trusting Schulz comments.

Schulz had been a beacon of false hope for Pac12.

- Schulz was the guy who gave the media partner is worried about bad optics quote.
- Schulz has been the main guy saying Pac12 is united
- Schulz stressed Pac12 deal will be linear

This President has been the biggest Pac Propagandist feeding most of the Wilner and Canzano disinformation.

Today he admits he can't pay his bills and freezes the accounts.

"Relocation of the Pac‑12 headquarters out of San Francisco exceeded budget projections as well."

Can't blame that on Scott-era. The relocation budget is certainly a Kliavkoff issue.

On the contrary: The move in its entirety was necessitated by the previous commissioner. He had the conference headquarters ensconced in some pricey real estate. The purpose of the move was to lower the costs of rent and overhead—which it accomplished. It's still a substantial savings in the long run.

There were unknowns for Mr Kliavkoff in budgeting the move. The lease expired at the SF site before a new, cheaper location could be ready. Kliavkoff asked staff to work remotely in the interim. Not exactly the action of a spendthrift.

That short-term uncertainty is a drop in the bucket compared to the expenses of staying put. Scott himself, at $5M a year, was 'the highest-paid conference commissioner in the country' as of July 2020. He's gone, and so now are four highly paid execs that he hired.

Washington State sounds like it's in no shape to handle even short-term unexpected expenses. Dr Schulz does imply that the Cougars athletic department isn't maintaining adequate reserves. It's down to clipping coupons.

I never questioned the move as unnecessary. That's fine, move the office if you want to. That seems like the correct strategic decision based on the multiple reports.

However, the relocation plan and budget was set by Kliavkoff. You can say there were unknowns, it doesn't indemnify his plan of being overbudget. Schulz is calling out Kliavkoff too.

Bishop Ranch rent isn't that expensive. My guess is that the PAC had to come out of pocket for a lot of the tenant improvements, which are much higher than normal office space. The TV distribution over payments is a more significant chunk.

Is is sounding as if some PAC presidents are finally reaching the acceptance stage:

It's healthy that decisions are being made. Next is for WSU and OSU, as a pair, to approach the Big XII with a phase-in deal?

Maybe its be but I cant see the BIG12 adding WSU or OSU.

If Oregon, Washington, Arizona asked I'm sure they would be accepted. Based on the Media rumors the BIG12 sure has the upper hand.
