They gone.

'Every time you open your mouth about conference realignment things, it gets interpreted the way people want to interpret it.'

I wanted to listen to this myself before saying anyrhing. I believe that Arizona is very concerned about the media deal, and they want to do what is best for them. Win, lose, or draw, they want to keep their rivalry with Arizona State. Had to chuckle at the AZ AD referring to ASU as "that school up the road." 03-wink

Arizona would be crazy to stay in the PAC12. In the BIG12 they would make crazy money because of Basketball.

The question is is there any money there for Arizona and other PAC 12 schools go there when ESPN does not have the money budget to pay for PAC 12 games, nor the extra cash to pay for extra teams when they are cutting their costs right now?

Its pretty much what nearly everyone has been saying.
Arizona and the rest WANT to stay in the Pac.
All things being equal, they will stay in the Pac.
They hope to get a deal good enough to stay in the Pac.
When they finally have a deal, which they don't, they will evaluate it and decide whether staying in the Pac makes the most sense for them. They have options.
They have no idea when Kliavcoff will come up with a deal.

ESPN is contractually obliged under the pro rata contract clause in the media contract they signed with the Big 12 to pay a full share (estimated about $20.4m/yr) for any P5 (read Pac-12) additions to the Big 12. It's Fox who does not have the contractual obligation.

He already has, more than a few times I'd guess. None yet acceptable to the 10 remaining teams, though, or it would be done.

ESPN's apparent approach: 04-chairshot

ESPN could buy the PAC-12 rights if they wanted. The reality is that the conference package as a whole doesn’t offer the value the PAC thinks it does. The market has clearly spoken.

The smart thing would be a complete merger - the 10 existing Pac with Big 12, if they feel like 22 is a weird number, add SDSU and SMU.

When the B1G comes calling, and they drop to 22 or 20 depending on who they take, its not a fatal blow.

You could have 4 6-team mini-leagues:
Northwest: Cal, Stan, Or, Wash, OSU, WSU
Southwest: SDSU, AZ, ASU, BYU, UT, TCU (note TCU is 60pct west coast in its student body)
Midwest: ISU, KU, KSU, OSU, TTU, CO (hey the old gangs back together!)
East: SMU, Houston, Baylor, UCF, Cin, WV

That league would have plenty of content across time zones, would dominate the after 10EST slot

The question is how much inventory does ESPN/FOX need?
The ACC could add up to 4 teams pro-rata, but they wouldn't get any more time slots, which means less appearances per team.

Adding more teams is great, but what's the value of national exposure?
And if you can't get on TV how does it benefit all of the conference members? You may have put more money in the pockets of the "new guys", but how does it pay more for the original teams?

Then, BY is adding the wrong schools.

Oregon
Washington
Utah
Stanford

Those are the schools that they should go after. Not the schools who are below than the top G5 schools left in the ratings.
