Warren was a snake. He lied to two conferences and then screwed them.

Facilitated a record deal for the BIG. Added two powerhouses in ucla and usc to the league. Ensured that the conference would be on three major networks, something only the NFL has done.
By every measure Warren left his conference better than he found it.
Note that folks whining about Warren are mostly ACC or Pac12 fans wanting to lash out at someone.

Professionalism matters. Professionalism dots the I's, crosses the T's, double checks all details and makes sure performance is guaranteed. Then they hold the other party to the contract to these same standards. And when a professional leaves he/she spends time making sure the one coming in knows where all pending business stands. This fail is on Warren, but not Warren alone. It's on the Big 10 presidents, the ADs, and on the whole Big 10 legal team. The level of fail on this is epic and unprecedented for an entity as buttoned down as the Big 10 was under Delaney.

They'd just slot ND into your place. Everybody except tOSU would be happy with that arrangement. B1G gets more wins for their other big programs but the same revenues. SEC gets more wins for our big programs and more $$, too. Michigan WINS BIG b/c you're out of their hair.
There's 0 chance that you guys were leaving your sweet $ perch atop the B1G unless a bunch of others were coming with you.

The SEC could take about 47% of the total value of the Big 10 by taking Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. That's a ton of value for 3 schools. Get Notre Dame to join that group and Kaboom! College football has one conference. After the Big 12 with Texas and Oklahoma this is the second most value found in the fewest schools in any conference. Networks know this. So it wouldn't necessary be a bunch, though the next 3 are worth 9% each.

....
Think how impressive this record-breaking deal will be when it actually gets finished.
That's one record broken, though, I guess. The B1G has officially been haggling a media deal longer than the PAC.

Agree with your sentiments on professionalism. However, I think this whole matter is over blown in an incredibly super hyped environment.
Warren, Gene Smith and others have gone on record stating that there are matters within the new contract agreement that needed to be worked out.
That and matters relating to integrating usc and ucla into the league.
This news is not a significant issue in my opinion.

Well since the Ninja were assassins for hire, maybe so. Swofford slowly bled the ACC, Warren gutted the PAC 12. Yeah, it fits!

RE: Warren Left A Mess When He Left The Big 10
Warren's tenure reminds me of a Clint Eastwood movie:
The Good: Structuring the B1G media negotiations as three time slots. USCLA doesn't count - any fool would have known that if USC knocks on your door you let them in;
The Bad: Completely screwing up the Covid football season until finally caving to pressure from athletes and member universities; and
The Ugly: Leaving a complete mess behind by not getting the B1G member schools on board for the terms of the new media deal.

Maybe no Big Ten FB which would've kept the Pac 12 sidelined as well, but the SEC didn't care one bit what they were doing and would've played no matter what. ACC & Big 12 too.

They were far from the only FBS conference to start late and have an abbreviated schedule in 2020, why does it seem like they're getting the most backlash? To my memory, there were at least four conferences, Big Ten, Pac 12, MWC, and MAC.
Nobody cares about the MAC. The MWC played as many as the Big 10. MAC and MWC seemed to be mostly following the lead of the P5 in their region. The Big 10 is a leader and was very vocal about not playing.
Add to it as well, if any P conference was likely to delay or not play due to COVID, the PAC 12 seemed most likely. The B1G also doing so was much more of a surprise to a lot of folks.

The 2020 season was trash, and I’m surprised that people still think it was the right choice. The B1G and PAC science advisors advocated for deferring the season to spring, and I think that would have been FAR superior as the vaccine would have allowed for much less interruption and some fan attendance.
