RE: What Do You WANT To Happen In Realignment?
This is what I want to see based on JR's big changes are coming mixed with a bit of revision to old school regionalism.

Two Mega Conferences divided into three divisions of 10.

THE SEC Conference

SouthEastern Division - Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Vandy

SouthWestern Division - Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, TCU, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Texas Tech

SouthAtlantic Division - FSU, Louisville, South Carolina, Clemson, Miami, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech

THE BIG Conference

BIG10 - Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Indiana, Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois, Purdue

BIGNorth - Penn State, Maryland, Rutgers, Pitt, BC, Syracuse, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Cincinnati, UCF (or Temple)

BIG West - USC, UCLA, Washington, Oregon, Nebraska, Stanford, Cal, Arizona State, Colorado, Utah

Notre Dame Remains Independent based on 4 games with SEC and 4 games with BIG annually and parks other sports in Big East.

PAC/B12 -
BYU, Arizona, Oregon State, Washington State, San Diego, Fresno, Boise State, Colorado State
SMU, Memphis, Temple (or UCF), USF, East Carolina, Baylor, Iowa State, Houston

Honestly thinking about it.

Oregon + Washington: B1G

Clemson + Florida St.: SEC

SMU + San Diego St.: PAC

Optional - UCONN + Memphis: Big 12

CFP Format - 8 + 8 (but not 8 champs + 8 at-large)
- 2 bids each for B1G and SEC, 4 bids for top 4 champs, and 8 at-large
- Top 4 champs get double bye, next 2 champs + B1G/SEC runners up get a single bye
- Top 8 At-Large play in opening round
- 4 team championship tournament for B1G and SEC for top 4 teams (rivalry week moved to before Thanksgiving and Semis on Thanksgiving Weekend with other teams playing 9th conference game)
- Remaining CCGs are top 2 or divisions (conference's choice)

So if I'm turning off the realism for "Tulane re-joins the SEC" then why am I keeping the SEC at 16+ teams and not just putting everyone back where they make the most sense and belong?

Well, yeah, but isn't that what the point of these threads really is?

I suppose you could say it confirms rooting interests (which we already have in our profiles and all the other posts we make on any topic).

But the point seems to be very much to have a place to say "let's put everyone back to this date or that date or this arrangement that I liked better" (read:better for the school I root for).

There is still lots of room for conversation and debate within the details of that - that could theoretically be interesting (it's certainly not all interesting to me, but some is).

The reality is turned off from the jump. If that's not your jam (a la Frank the Tank who likes predicting more than wishing), there are lots of other threads for that.

Maybe I shouldn't speak for the OP. But I thought the suspension of disbelief was the point.

What's funny is that all the Bracket Forecasters are "trying to predict what the committee does" and not focused on WHO SHOULD make the NCAA Tournament.

And conference realignment is a lot more balanced between people talking about what they want, and trying to predict what will happen.

There's value to both in conference realignment... (following along with what's likely to happen, and talking about what it SHOULD look like).

But part of the reason I've barely posted here anymore is because we've just crossed the line of sanity. Texas, UCLA and USC is just the bridge too far for me.

We don't have conferences anymore, we have TV cartels. And the frustrating thing is that I'd have been totally on board with an "ESPN League, Fox League, CBS League and NBC League" if it was done right.
