He's getting older, and I'm sure if he needs more $$, the UH will ofFertitta it up.

He says he's staying at UH for at least one more year.

Okay, but if he said that, why did he bother to interview?

RE: ESPN: Kelvin Sampson interviewed for the Milwaukee Bucks’ coaching job
I mean why would you not take the opportunity to at least interview for the Bucks job? Potentially pays way more money and you’re walking into a situation where you have a championship core in place. Add in the fact that they have Giannis, arguably the best player in the world in his prime, who epitomizes just about everything CKS looks for in a player and it’s kind of a no brainer. That said, I doubt seriously that Sampson would be their guy. They just moved out a coach who brought them a championship. I think they’ll be looking for someone with a bit more pedigree than coach. But I could be wrong.

Posted this over on the B12 board...

Quote:Sampson released a short statement to multiple media outlets after news of the interview went public: "Can't wait to compete in the Big 12 next season. Go Coogs!"

This after Sampson was presented a revised contract at some point over the last two weeks, according to the Houston Chronicle. That contract would push Sampson's salary to a level placing him among the top 15 coaches in the sport, the Chronicle reports. Sampson is scheduled to make $3.4 million next season.

Coaches interview for contract leverage all the time. It's how Dana Holgorson ****** up and ended up in Houston.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is still in his Prime. He would be crazy not to take the Bucks job if offered.

When Tilman Fertitta is your Shadow AD, I don't think you worry about finding the right coaches anymore.

He worked on the Bucks staff for several years. It might just be a courtesy interview. But it also could the impetus to finally transition the head job to his son. I'll be mildly surprised if he leaves, but not shocked.

I wouldn’t say crazy but yeah with one of the best players in the NBA and team that legit can win an NBA ring, one would be crazy not to interview for a variety of reasons.

I think he stays in Houston myself but who knows.

For sure. And I can’t blame a guy for putting some pressure on his employer to get a raise. Sampson deserves whatever he gets. We’re blessed to have him.
