Sporting News. I remember when they sublicensed the name to what was One on One Sports 20 plus years ago and it wasn't doing that great even then.

All the 2nd and 3rd rate sports talk stations. They had some great shows (Tim Brando was on there) but that network has gone through so many names it's like going through socks.

I think it's SportsMap Radio now. A good portion of their schedule now is simulcast of VSIN.

AZCats+ will have a 24/7 livestream of DavidSt+ replying to everything said on the network.

SI and The Sporting News are already in "journalism Hospice". The SI is essentially a name to license products since the magazine has been monthly for years. Jack McCallum, Chris Mannix and Pat Forde are the only journalists of note still there since it seems Jon Wertheim does more for CBS and Tennis Channel. It's only relevancy is the the item which has needed to go for the last 15 years..the Swimsuit Issue.

The less anyone talks about the current Sporting News, the better. It's irreversibility irrelevant.

Baseball America is closely behind it too.

Moving everything online is also killing the networks as well, but it also ESPN and Fox at fault for overcharging by bundle a lot of their stuff together for cable that is cord cutting is getting out of hand. The problem they faced is that not everybody is going to pay for all those online streaming srevices. They are seeing the big surge of the cord cutters going to the free online streaming services with ads.

Now, the issue is that ESPN could saved themselves by moving ACC and the SEC networks to a paid service on cable like they do with HBO and that. It could reduce the cable bills a lot. Big 10 Network and PAC 12 Network could actually do better if they put those on that teir along with the NFL, GOLF, MLB, horse racing and all that. CBS did not bundled CBSSports with their other channels.

ESPN Plans to Stream Flagship Channel, Eyeying Cable TV's Demise

With ESPN's profitability problems as background, The Wall Street Journal published an article today about ESPN's shift in content delivery.

Here are the highlights:

1. ESPN plans to emphasize its stand alone channel directly to subscribers.

2. No deadline is in place, but the wheels are in motion.

3. ESPN seeks flexibility with "pro sports leagues as those rights deals come up and has secured the same flexibility from at least two major leagues". (My aside - I imagine they will also seek flexibility from college leagues).

4. ESPN+ is the first step, but ESPN+ does not offer programing like NBA and NFL games. ESPN wants to place everything together in one package.

5. ESPN (and Disney) will have to complete against streaming giants like Apple and Amazon.

6. " income from Disney’s traditional television networks, including ESPN, fell significantly to $1.8 billion, from $2.8 billion in the year-earlier quarter."

I voted "other" just because there's not the same level of interest in failing media outlets. They fail all the time. When Conferences fail, it's big news because they almost never fail.

That NBCSN and Fox/Bally regionals can fail, but CBSSN can somehow survive on a diet of pro rodeo, dirt track racing, and Scottish League soccer blows my mind.

There is College Football, including MW and the American equivalent of the Raycom package.

CFL airs on CBSSN exclusively. Despite being produced by TSN (ESPN Canada).
