As I recall it was going to be a 2 year stay but the first year went so poorly they moved to Nashville after only 1 and played their games at Vanderbilt? Not sure on that.

The Oilers were supposed to help build the fanbase.
Players were supposed to go out to area schools, meet the kids, build relations that way etc.
That's not what happened.
A lot of times the players were no-shows.
I remember when the Memphis Americans indoor soccer team came to Memphis.
They played a game of volleyball against our volleyball team at Bellevue Jr High, the Americans's players could only use their feet.
Still, I became a fan that day as I got to meet them after the 'show was over'.
The Oilers acted spoiled...like they were too good to be in Memphis.
Our town was a dump to them, and that's how they treated it and it's fans.
I was already a fan of another team...but I vowed id never have anything for them... No good feelings or anything of the sort.
The Oilers/Titans can go to Hell for all I care.

exactly and it amazes me how people have forgotten about that.

I grew up an Oiler fan. At one point I was excited at the idea of both of my favourite teams being in Memphis. As for the relocation, I also remember all of it, especially the Steeler game. I was in shock that the Oiler ownership thought that any part of their plan was remotely plausible.

the Memphis attitude was probably always going to be negative about the Oilers... What sealed their fate here was when those arrogant a-holes asked the city of Memphis to foot the bill for the Oliers charter flights from Nashville for each "home" game. that went over like a lead balloon and people were fighting mad...

It should never have been negative. The city should have told them to go **** themselves from the beginning.

Yeah particularly at that point in time would've been better for all concerned to just go on to Nashville and work something out.

I'm still convinced that had the NFL come to Memphis in the 70's - 90's it would've worked out. Closest teams in the 90's were St. Louis, Dallas, New Orleans, Cincinnati, and Atlanta - huge hole to fill back then.
