Stratton pitches two, no-hit, shutout innings, though he did walk a couple. Rather than see if Stratton can build on his first two innings and be stretched a bit, he brings in Rodriguez to start the T3. Rodriguez who has been so bad he hasn't pitched in the last month. You can guess what transpired-- 6 hits (3 doubles) and a wild pitch later, Rodriguez is pulled having gotten only 2 outs and given up 6 runs. It's bad enough that we have a lineup with Smiggy, Walsh and Holderbach (with Johnson, Smith, Salazar and Dukes in the lineup).
Again, given the total lack of depth and consistency in our pitching staff and bullpen, how do you take Stratton out after just 2 innings? And put in Rodriguez? Sorry, enough is enough.
Let me help you out. I think Cruz was doing some pitching staff management. Stratton had control issues, had a lot of traffic on the bases, and threw a lot of pitches (I would guess around 50) in his two innings. I would also be willing to put money on him starting Sunday, so his outing needed to be limited.
I understand the concern on Rodriguez as he has had some rough outings. You probably felt the same way seeing Zaskoda come in, but look what he did. With 5 games in one week, and the more important games being this weekend that is yet to come, you have to roll the dice. It's not like these guys have no talent. Zaskoda pitched great and had a big smile on his face when he walked off the mound in the 8th after striking out the UH #3 hitter for the second time.
Regarding the lineup, keep in mind there may be some health issues and some guys may need some playing time and at bats in case they are needed in the remaining conference games.

Stratton threw only 38 pitches in his 2 innings. He did allow 3 BB, but no hits.
No Owl threw more than 40 pitches on Wednesday - Zaskoda had 40 in 3 shutout, 0 hit innings; Vincent had 39 in 2 1/3 innings of 1 run, 1 hit baseball.

Thanks. When I looked I did not see number of pitches in the box score. It felt like more than 38 for Stratton, but it was time to replace him.
