And the big dogs...athletic budgets could hit in excess of 200 million a year.
The thing is, it is far from over and too hard to tell where things will take the Memphis program. In 2001, TCU (CUSA at the time) had Gary Patterson take over the program and was 6-6. Who would have thought about 20yrs later that coach would take them to a Natty appearance while in a power conference? A year later was when Boise St. started their run with Chris Peterson getting ranked, and we all would have thought in that time period that they could have moved up conferences and been playing for it all. They are still wandering in the non P5 desert trying to stay relevant. TCU's market helped them, and we are lucky to not be in the middle of nowhere like Boise St.
It's too hard to tell what will happen. Memphis needs to keep up the academics and research, along with the facilities and athletics, and hope to keep moving up. There will likely be shakeups we can't even imagine and we need to still be in position to be desired.
What happens with the ACC if teams like FSU, Clemson, and UNC bounce? What if the Pac fully disolves? What if the SEC and BIG10 join up and separate from the NCAA altogether?

Face it..were stuck in G5 purgatory. Acceptance is the first step. Wednesday night games on ESPN 3 between rounds of Pro Pickleball. Memphis vs UNCC!!!!! Reaction to that will be...UNCC plays football?

The league is on the rise and plus it would make sense geographically too. Only issue is that the basketball in the league is quite weak. Otherwise both football and baseball are pretty good. Maybe Memphis, ECU, and Tulane as a trio in the near future?

Please point out the slur in this thread. And yes, they do have a right to their opinion. As do I. And my opinion is that a REALIST wants to be ruled, while a PRETENDER wants to be governed. This applies to all phases of life, from personal to sports. REALISTS are told where to stay and obey, because they crave being ruled. PRETENDERS say 'to hell with you' and aspire for more.

The others choose to go through life PRETENDING --they love to PRETEND--realists and PRETENDERS
You have a right to your opinion--regardless of the attacks and slurs.
Look, I own a business, a retail business so every day I'm faced with decisions about realities that are out of my control. If I carry a product that people are not buying I have to move on. Sell what I have at a discount and reinvest in something else. If the economy turns I have to have a game plan to deal with it. All the wishfull thinking in the world will not turn those realities. Literally the only control any of us have about where we sit in the college landscape is to go to games..that's it. But I personally see the growing gap in college athletics as a very real long term problem for all of the G5. I see it from a business perspective and its a pretty harsh reality. I sense no enthusiasm for this new conference. In fact this whole B12 thing has just sucked the oxygen out of the room. I honestly hope I'm wrong but I don't have a good feeling about things. The biggest issue is going to be retaining the really good players that got overlooked by the big schools. 2019 is going to hard to repeat. Caden Prieskorn is a prefect example. The combination of the portal along with the insane amounts of money available with the P2 is a reality that all of G5 football is going to have to deal with.

This I agree with. I have zero enthusiasm for CUSA 2.0. But much, much less for anything to do with the Sunbelt. We are screwed, it is irrevocable and unfixable, so to remain a Memphis sports fan means accepting this, moving on, and hoping to do whatever we can with whatever we have. We are saddled with an anchor around our necks as a University, and there's not one damned thing we can do about it.

I don't agree with your analogies --but I sure agree with the premise about having the guts to buck authority or push back on being ruled.
So you disagree with me while agreeing with me. That's not very realist of you, but it does pretend.

Except, the G5 will have a playoff spot. So, at the beginning of each season, there will be around 40 P5 schools that will have no realistic shot at the playoff. We will have a shot every year. So, in that respect, we won't have the $30-50 million, but we will still have a better shot at the playoff than 2/3 of the P5.

Sunbelt Expansion
During this whole 4 team playoff thing where the top Non P5 got a spot in a big bowl, all but 3 times it went to the American. I don't see that changing. So we should strive to be that rep as many times as we can.
