OT - The Last Thing He Told Me
So I’m watching this silly drama on Apple TV. Series based on a popular book. Takes place in both San Francisco and Austin.

And I’ve now seen 3 different references to Rice in the first 5 episodes, so I’m thinking someone connected to the show has to have gone to Rice. Maybe someone else might be able to figure out the connection if you go to IMDb?

All 3 references have been in Austin. In one episode, they’re taking a campus tour of UT and someone on the tour is wearing a Rice shirt (and they’re making fun of him for that reason). In another episode, they tell a UT math professor the lady’s daughter is deciding between Texas and Rice. And in the latest episode, the head of the US Marshall’s office in Austin has a Rice degree hanging on the wall of her office.

Jennifer Garner was born in Houston but moved to the northeast at age 3. Her father was a chemical engineer with Union Carbide, so there might be a connection there.

Pretty sure Garner has strong ties to the Aggies. Her dad is an alum and there are plenty of pics on the web with her in A&M gear.

According to this website of quotes (https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/...ave?page=5 ), Laura Dave's book repeats the canard about Rice architects designing the owlish Frost Building in Austin:

Quote:I open my window and take in the Frost Building—the tiers on top, like ears, the two windows that look like eyes. There is definitely an owl similarity. “This is a UT town, but the architects all went to Rice University and the owl is Rice University’s mascot. So that’s like a f-you to our mascot and to the Longhorns in general.

It's an urban myth, however. (https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/fros...l-building)

Tate Moore, the actress daughter of a friend, appears in a couple of episodes of the Apple TV production. I'll ask if she knows the origins of the Rice references.
