All of the named teams were good guesses for those weeks, and this is a good, logical guess for week 3. The author tossed out Tennessee at Florida as the other more likely game.

ESPN has been visiting successful SBC teams recently (Coastal, App St). Troy as SBC champ could get a visit, and they would have an interesting story line hook as "two schools that could have met last year in title game if eligible). Assuming both schools start off strong with wins, it seems this game would be one ESPN considers.

Tennessee and Florida could be a dud this fall, if the Vols can’t replace all that talent in Hendon Hooker. Florida should suck.

Only remote chance this happens is if we beat UVA and they beat Kansas State the preceding week. Even then, seems like a <1% chance.

Yeah, I don't think it's that likely. The Sun Belt is definitely getting more love for sure, but I think the fact that the game is so early in the season combined with us probably not even in consideration for the SB championship makes it even less likely.
I would say it might have had a better chance if it was a game later in the season and both teams are at the top of the conference and if the game was in Harrisonburg. Troy would truly be their main focus and we would definitely get a mention, but there's a big difference between being the destination of CGD and being the visiting team. It would absolutely still be cool, but it's just not the same if it's not in Harrisonburg.

Not sure how to measure the likelihood, but I think Troy (as SBC defending champ) is more likely to host a CGD this year than we are. Not impossible for JMU host, but everything would have to go perfectly.

Troy is also more likely to be in the AP top 25 before we are this year. We could get there, but not as quickly.

Troy ended the season ranked AP# 19. App St hosted gameday last year in week#3 vs Troy.

I'm not as confident Troy will get CGD as I was about App St, but I think they have a very good chance.
