I picked Coach K. He had more depth to deal with, as well as longer tournaments.

That's a great span of winning chips across decades of time. 13 ACC regular season titles and 15 ACC tournament chips - this in the ACC juggernaut mind you. 36 NCAA Tournament appearances [101-30] and 1,202-368 [.766] overall. How many dudes did he graduate to the NBA? 68 draft picks including 42 first rounders.

I have to go with K as well. And he is/was arrogant and snide. As much as I want to dislike him, he was also thoughtful and kind at times. When Jim V. was dying and getting treatments at Duke he went out of his way to to be helpful. People are a lot of things, depending on time, place and circumstances. When you (or I) start getting all caught up about what great people we are, remember that we're the ******* in someone's story.

Great point. 04-cheers

Spent some time mulling this great topic over & came to the following conclusion - hard to make a cut at 20, as there's been so many great ones over the years, but willing to make a strong argument for the following, all having won at least one National Championship (prerequisite for even being under consideration):

20 - Gary Williams (American (1978-82), Boston College (1982–86), Ohio St (1986–89), Maryland (1989–2011))
19 - Phog Allen (Baker (1905–08), Kansas (1907–09, 19–56), Haskell (1908–09), C Missouri St (1912–19))
18 - Henry Iba (NW Missouri St (1929–33), Colorado (1933–34), Oklahoma St (1934–70))
17 - Billy Donovan (Florida)
16 - Jay Wright (Hofstra (1994–2001), Villanova (2001–22))
15 - Jerry Tarkanian (Long Beach St (1968–73), NV-Las Vegas (1973–92), Fresno St (1995–2002))
14 - Denny Crum (Louisville)
13 - Lute Olson (Long Beach St (1973–74), Iowa (1974–83), Arizona (1983–2007))
12 - Tom Izzo (Michigan St)
11 - Bill Self (Oral Roberts (1993–97), Tulsa (1997–2000), Illinois (2000–03), Kansas (2003–present))

10 - John Calipari (Massachusetts (1988–96), Memphis (2000–09), Kentucky (2009–present))
9 - Rick Pitino (Hawaii (1976), Boston University (1978–83), Providence (1985–87), Kentucky (1989–97), Louisville (2001–17), Iona (2020–23), St John's (2023–present))
8 - Bob Knight (Army (1965–71), Indiana (1971–2000), Texas Tech (2001–08))
7 - Jim Calhoun (Northeastern (1972–86), Connecticut (1986–2012), St Joseph's (CT) (2018–21))
6 - Jim Boeheim (Syracuse)

5 - Adolph Rupp (Kentucky)
4 - Dean Smith (N Carolina)
3 - Roy Williams (Kansas (1988–2003), N Carolina (2003–21))
2 - John Wooden (Indiana St (1946–48), CA-Los Angeles (1948–75))

1 - Mike Krzyzewski (Army (1975–80), Duke (1980–2022))

Donovan has done a whole lot with little talent since moving to the NBA, I think he could have climbed the ranks quite a bit if he'd stayed in College.
