I wouldn't read that much into it. Conferences have schools as affiliate members for random sports all the time.

Previous CUSA affiliate members include Alabama (rowing), Cal State Bakersfield (swimming and diving), Georgia State (beach volleyball), and South Carolina (soccer).

SFA is a Sunbelt affiliate. Looks like the UAC is about to lose a member before it even starts.

Having a connection is better than not having a connection. At least you have a foot in the door. It's why I believe FIU is a more serious AAC candidate than people think, as a current member in 2 sports.

Could it lead to nothing? Sure. Could it lead to a deeper relationship? Yeah.

The difference with Tarleton is they are well known to covet CUSA membership, and they seem to be on the short list for membership. There have been conversations there.

NCAA supposedly told Tarleton they could not simultaneously be in transition to Div I FCS and FBS, they must do this in a linear fashion. That put a damper on things, but may not preclude them joining later after they complete the FCS transition.

I think they are just trying to stay at 6, replacing FAU, who are leaving and I presume will place the sport in another conference like the CCSA.

This is only a single weekend tournament. Nothing more.

I've been told by like four different people with {direct} knowledge here that this move has nothing to do with TSU potentially joining in all sports, and that additionally, CUSA has made it clear they are NOT interested in adding TSU right now.

Hearing CUSA isn't done adding beach volleyball affiliates too. Watch TCU.

I don't think they would be THE candidate if SMU leaves, but I think they would be a candidate.

Maybe the Random Texans can get back together under the C-USA banner?

What do you hear about Boise State and San Jose State to the Southland? Would Boise State drop down to FCS in football.
