Strange that FIU doesn't have men's golf or tennis, both of which are huge in the state of Florida.

MT fails to wins its fifth straight golf title but it’s clear MT is now a country club school. Maybe one day we’ll be a football school again. SMH

Strange that FIU doesn't have men's golf or tennis, both of which are huge in the state of Florida.

FIU used to have a competitive men’s tennis team but dropped it around when football started I believe to even out scholarships due to Title IX. FIU instead plays men’s soccer which they also had temporarily dropped. You have to choose which of the more minor men’s sports to play when you play football.

MT Wrestling was a casuality of Title IX back in the late 70s or early 80s IIRC.

Let me first congratulate MT, and then change the subject a bit.

I have no clue how tennis works at the conference level, and am confused by the Women's Tennis situation. I assume some people reading this thread may understand this.

When I look at the WT standings on the conference website I see that Rice is #1 at 5-0, followed by FIU and UTSA both at 3-1, then Charlotte and LT both at 2-1. How can you have a conference champion when teams don't play the same number of conference matches?

Rice went 5-0 in conference, but 13-9 overall. FIU tied for 2nd in the conference at 3-1, but was 18-4 overall. Charlotte, tied for 4th at 2-1, went 22-6 overall. Charlotte and FIU are going to the NCAAs, but Rice is not. Huh? This just seems weird.

They base it all on the tournament, I guess.
