Night of the Owl
Apparently, the "Night of the Owl" is tonight if anyone is interested. Honoring our athletes used to be something that was well publicized and well-attended by students, alumni and fans...it used to be a significant event.

Apparently it is a secret ceremony tonight since it's probably too much effort to make it a significant event again. Hope I didn't reveal any secrets.

RE: Night of the Owl
Rice athletics has been posting about it on Instagram since March 3rd. They have 8 posts on there including the nominees.

But it does seem like it is more for the athletics program and not alumni or others.

Nothing on riceowls.com though. I don’t use Instagram. I’m old. Twitter is about the only social media app I pay attention to.

My only quibble would be with the male and female newcomers of the year. I would have given it to Darcy Harris (volleyball) and Ben Royo (baseball).

No female winner of the Dr. Hubert E. Bray Scholar Athlete award?
If I'd known this was tonight, I could have gotten Dr. Bray's framed portrait to them before the ceremony.
Oh well...

Can anyone on the inside tell us where the double-super-secret location of the ceremony was?

RE: Night of the Owl
Sorry yall, I misspoke earlier. It was actually the riceathletes Instagram account that had all the information.

There was a social at Reckling Park followed by the award show at Stude Concert Hall.

I actually decided to show up and see the proceedings...it was a great event..well planned, well attended by athletes and well executed...it was obviously determined that this was to be an event only for the athletes and while I would like to see alumni and fans included, it was an exceptional evening.

I went to a few, never won anything.

So my hat is off to those who did win. Congratulations to the very deserving winners.
