Really good point and question. I brought it up with the guys and it could be possible that he had all remote classes this semester that might allow him to be there. Time will definitely tell with EG though so we should know something soon to whether he’ll go play professionally somewhere or not. Thanks Matt

I only saw the one with Butta? Did they actually release one to the public with EG on it? If they made one with EG on it, but didn't use it, that could be another big clue he is leaving...

So there wasn't actually one made with EG on it?

"Yikes, so you are saying their fans didnt appreciate you?"
"Have you seen the game threads on blazertalk? Man i've seen rabid dogs get treated better than they treated me!"

If true, oh well. Anyone with eyes could see that he was a massively flawed player. I do hope he comes back, and he does have the potential to improve a lot. I also think it's in his best interest if he has any hope at a successful professional career to come back, ball out, and show he can improve on his ball handling and decision making issues primarily. Adding weight to his waifish frame, finishing better at the rim, and improving his jump shot and midrange game are also musts. He's got A LOT he has to improve on to have a really successful professional career IMO.
He never seemed like he had UAB's best interests at heart. Everyone is out for themselves, but his body language and the techs at the beginning and middle of the year still turn me off. The fact he basically lost us the FAU and FIU games on the road with incredibly bad decisions on the last play of the game(s) for us still turns me off. The fact he was still throwing no look behind the back passes to the opposing team late in his third full season as a college player turns me off.
If he comes back, great. If not, not a huge loss IMO.

I, for one, hope he stays on the team and continues to improve. Unlike a bunch of NBA wannabe scouts in this thread, I think he vastly improved this season from Nov to March.
He is electric and UAB needs electricity anywhere we can get it.

I would love to see what Gaines could do next season with this being his team. He provided some of what everybody is on here crying about. He also provided some of the best highlights we've had in a while. His shooting improved throughout the year, and he was a good playmaker when given the chance. I think AK could have coached him into not putting himself in the air without a decision being made beforehand and we could have seen a different player next season.
I also think our portal targets this year have made it clear we are missing one more person than we all thought at the guard position.

An electric dunk followed by a missed layup bc he got in the air and had no idea what to do with the ball followed by an errant pass that leads to a pick six for the opposing team is still a net negative, no matter how electric the dunk was.

Yeah we’ve been saying that all along. AK flat out said we were replacing 75% of the roster, which meant everybody we knew was leaving, plus Bertram and Gordon, plus one more. I always figured there was a really high chance that would be Gaines.
That plus the tourney ad without what should be your best returning player, plus his lack of promoting or posting anything related to uab, plus the work outs all point to him going to some sort of pro basketball. I want what he’s smoking if he thinks he’s going to the league though.

Quote:Gaines is known for being a very crafty scorer, especially at the rim. As electric as some of his finishes are, this willingness to take tough, advanced shots is part of the reason his efficiency is low. Furthermore, his flashy style of play and sometimes loose handle has led to a high number of turnovers this season.
