are you trying to rebut me from Sports Illustrated article written by a "Draft Digest Staff" like a cite from an authority?
I never contradicted the flaws in his game with turnovers and such.
This is a fan's message board and people are already staying stuff basically like "good riddance" or "he was overrated" and he isn't even officially off the team or out of school best I can tell from looking at social media and such.
thanks for a link.
I wasn't trying to rebut you at all. It simply seemed logical to attach the link to your post. If you'd actually READ it, you'd find that they cite many of the same things about his game that you've pointed out over the season.
I happen to like EG and hope he stays.
I find it interesting that the article basically says that he's not ready for the NBA yet, yet projects him as a 2nd round pick. IMO, that's the worst thing that could happen to him. He'd wind up riding the bench or exiled to the G League and forgotten. He really needs more tutelage on control and needs to muscle up his frame.
I scanned down through the link you sent. I'm not really interested in reading the opinion of a single sports magazine's pov on one player.
I think I criticized EG a couple of times on our losses but I stopped project mockingbird and repeating the same talking points like others on the board.
I like EG a lot and hope he returns but would like him to make it in pro sports too whether its today or in the future.
according to the nba site, he can yank his name out by 5/31 to keep his eligibility.
If he fixed his decision making deficits, I’d stop being a mockingbird. He hasn’t.
His miraculous in season turnaround you referenced netted him 4 points, 1-4 shooting (0-3 from 3), 4 fouls, 1A/1TO against UNT and 13 points on 5-14 shooting, 2A/3TO against Utah valley. NOT impressive from a 3 year player with NBA aspirations. But I’m sure there was some amazing dunk or block thrown in there to make you oooh and ahhh..
He did get better but there was no miraculous turnaround. He largely made the same mistakes throughout the entire season. He’d have good games and then Revert back to old habits
so since he doesn't score 15pts 5 rebs 4assists 0 turnovers every game then he sucks?
there is no up and down for good players?

Consistency, the lack of ups and downs is what separates good players from the rests.
A ton of players, just like a ton of teams are capable of having one great game. Even bad players and teams can do that. So yes, the NBA is looking for the types of players that will get you 15 pts, 5 rebs, 4 assist and few turnovers throughout a 30-game season in college. Especially in a league like CUSA. The Answer is correct. I personally dont think Gaines can shoot, aside from his poor decision making. If he comes back and works hard to improve, great. If he leaves, i won't lose sleep over it.

I saw a lot of players have one great game last season. Often it was against our backcourt.

UAB tells me that guard Eric Gaines, a draft early entry, has left open the option to return to school.

I don’t know what you consider bashing, but I think the things I bring up about his game are VERY valid criticisms and he will certainly be dissected and “bashed” a ton in the draft evaluation process..
I’ve never said he was a bad person, a bad representative of the university, anything like that.
Just as a fan of basketball I do not particularly like the way he plays and think he has a ton of flaws. I do hope he comes back, commits 100% to getting better, balls out, and gets drafted next year. I think we have a higher ceiling with an improved version of EG than we do without him, but I won’t lose sleep over it if he leaves early. For reference I would have lost sleep over jelly leaving early or Vaden leaving early.
EG is just a very polarizing player. To me he looks like an extremely, Uber gifted athlete who was never coached the basics of basketball or started playing very late. Polished players or ones who are fundamentally sound simply don’t make the myriad of mistakes he does. He can get better at it, did get better, and I hope he continues that trajectory.

bashing was just generic term for criticism and that comment was to all, not calling out your post specifically.
