RE: 2023-24 Season
Thought Johnson injury was not that bad. Is he out for the year?
Had not heard about Hacker, what is his status.
Also, Pfriem did not play today.
I guess all the freshmen are red-shirting.

RE: 2023-24 Season
Weird that the starters played so much on Monday.
No idea about Johnson's status -- his injury was a hip one, sustained at WVU. Going to be a long season without him and Hopf. Hopefully Ben's just not playing to get a little more healing time, particularly given the opponents this week.
Hacker went down early against Midway. He was in serious pain at first -- looked like a knee issue, but was sitting on the bench in the second half (I believe without a brace or anything).

RE: 2023-24 Season
More bad/sad news. According to Eric Crawford Knights down to 7-8 healthy players. Even worse, Garrett Tipton's mother, 52, died suddenly this week and another player's grandfather passed.
Condolences and prayers for Garrett and the other player.

RE: 2023-24 Season
Tough loss to Evansville this afternoon. Definitely a winnable game but with all the injuries they played hard.
Wieland is out several weeks with broken finger
Johnson played today but hip was heavily taped
Pfriem did not play due to concussion
Hacker did play today but was kinda ginger on his leg
Hopf is out for the season

RE: 2023-24 Season
This team can't get a break with injuries. As I've said before, it seems BU has an inordinate amount of critical ones (and I mean over a span of seasons) -- not sure if it's my imagination or if there's an issue with training, etc.
One of those "die by the three" games today, but still winnable. Even worse, the BU fans were embarrassingly out-cheered by the UE contingent. Decent turnout for the game, but all of those "fans" who just sit there are no help. Ugh.
Very sorry to hear about Tipton's mother and the other guy's grandfather. Awful news.

The "other" guy is starter Peter Suder who lost his grandfather.

Thanks. Was just going by Smooth's post, which didn't identify which guy.

RE: 2023-24 Season
This had to be a tough game for Tipton and Suder and the team as a whole so condolences and kudos for playing. That being said Suder should not be shooting 3's.
Otherwise, I thought our O was not the Scotty O, lot of jammed up possessions, missed layups. Ben Johnson 1-10 on 3's..... he had to still be hurt. Hatton really giving great effort but he had to be gassed playing 37 minutes. We got outscored 11-2 at the end of each half and we win the other 30+ minutes by 13... depth, fatigue.
Ditto on the crowd, we are moving back to Knights Hall and cannot come soon enough. I hope Mark Lynn wants his name on another building.
Seems to me the injuries started after the strength coach left a couple of years ago.

RE: 2023-24 Season
Yeah, was a great effort by the guys on Saturday! I'm still ticked off at the crowd, though.
Is a move back to Knights Hall pretty much a done deal and just a question of when? Would indeed be cool if Lynn sprung for a major renovation or even a new arena; it was nice to see that the latest Lansing multi-million dollar gift included men's basketball as a recipient.
Hartman seemed to do a fine job on strength and conditioning, but I even recall some surprising injuries even then.

Not sure where all this "info" about moving back to Knights Hall is coming from? I have heard nothing to that effect. If so it will be a nightmare with respect to season tickets. Who will purchase a season ticket in the upper area behind those posts.

RE: 2023-24 Season
very depressing watching the Utah game, especially second half. Lots of excuses to be sure for a very poor showing, but I don't see anything likely to get much better. Travelling all the way to Utah to get smashed by a much better team. I hope we were compensated well for the trip. I know the move up to DI was sold at least partially to give the school more national recognition in hopes of drawing more students from areas where we traditionally don't get many students. I don't see us getting an influx of LDS students in the near future. On another pessimistic note I also was disappointed by the crowd for the Evansville game - sounded like they had more fans than we did. Heck we can't even get students to find their way from Newburg Road to KFEC (yes I know the students are on XMAS break but they don't show up for any home games in decent numbers).

Agree that the second half of the Utah game was brutal. BYU will likely be just as bad (if not worse), but, yeah, the payout for BU should be nice.
I know Scotty likes to take the approach (often attributed to Denny Crum) of playing anyone anywhere. They're not playing games in Utah to snag Mormon students, but to take on a couple of willing, so-called Power 5 (guess it's now the Power 4) opponents -- I imagine it's not the easiest thing to get games like that, especially when BU has a history of defeating one. Of course, if we knew then what we know now about the Knights' roster being decimated by injuries, etc., I doubt that we'd have all of these Power 5 games. Impressively, even with the depleted roster, BU has acquitted itself rather well in contests with fellow "mid-majors" (Evansville, Bowling Green, Ball State, UT Chatty, and Morehead St.).
At any rate, the D-I move has clearly boosted the university's national profile -- I've encountered that just in talking with contacts in various parts of the country.
Think we all here agree about the lack of student support, as well as the crowd in general. Something needs to be done -- there's basically no home court advantage anymore.

Good grief -- more injuries. Now it's Dez and Tipton, in addition to Hopf and Wieland.
Will the Knights need me to suit up at some point this season? I have eligibility and am ready to go.

At least it was good to see Alec Pfriem back on the court - he played well and seemed at full speed to me. I don't know if playing a tough schedule of away games contributed to the injury problems (I think maybe not much) but if you ignore the Boyce, Berea and Midway games the Knights were 1 - 11 prior to conference games. I like playing high profile D1 teams to an extent, but I wonder if getting the tar beaten out of them weighs on their mentality a little?

Yeah, I like the "play anyone, any time" mentality, but wonder that as well.
I'm already planning on playing a little SG for the injury-riddled Knights during conference play -- I know Moves and Stalker in real life, and think Moves can run PG with Stalker handing F duties.
Happy 2024 to all of my fellow BU fans!

While we have been on probation, I think it was good to play the top teams and get our name out there. But going forward I believe we should be playing more teams at our level. We should be able to get a healthy schedule by playing Horizon, OVC, Big South opponents. There is no need to play UK and Duke types. I would love to see annual series with NKY and Southern Indiana.
At some point the boys need some wins.
GO KNIGHTS !

RE: 2023-24 Season
Happy New Year to all Knights and hope our injury luck changes in 2024.
Great to see Pfriem AND Johnson back in form. We were in all our mid-major games and it seems to me we ran out of gas due to a thin lineup. We need Bash back in a bad way.
Scotty played 6 $$$ games this year(one of which we almost won) and I see 5 or 6 continuing into the future. We are in a one-bid league so our non-con record makes no difference. Just need to avoid all these injuries.

A reliable source has told me to look for a USI game in the near future. NKU, however, is just chicken s$&#t and wont schedule us.

RE: 2023-24 Season
We were never in the game tonight and look tired. It will be a long year, as I commented before Scotty RS all the frosh so he is writing off this year after not playing any after Hopf/Bash injuries and et.al. The bench is thin, we bring in 6'0 (maybe) 185, they bring in 7'3 300. He subbed EliReed who has not played hardly any career minutes and he got lost on D for a dunk.... not his fault. Bash would have made a major difference this year since he can bang. Suder plays really hard but is hitting the deck way too much, an injury is coming. Ben Johnson is a pure shooter and I hope we don't lose him to some NILBS. For comparison to the recent years, we have no Pedro, Dylan, CJ on O (and if you go in the wayback machine Goat, Kendle, Dowe, Thelen) and nobody close to Betz on D. Oh Well, we lockedout of tourney anyway this year. Hope the RS Frosh can ball with whoever comes back and we get a recruit taller than 6'7.
Final comment, Scotty needs to STFU, you got a tech on a foul call on the other team.

RE: 2023-24 Season
Yes, brutal (and I don't see it getting any better this season). Only highlight last night was getting to say hello to Brandon Pfaadt -- seems like a really nice guy.
It sucks that the bench is so thin. Noticed that half of the APSU roster came from Northwestern State. I'm not a fan of the current state of college sports (NIL, transfer portal, etc.), but am thinking Bellarmine needs to start playing the portal game even more.
I told a new-school BU fan at the game that, right now, we could use a ton of those old D-II guys, including my guy Alex Cook.
