Football portal
…..Is heating up.

Hundreds of guys an hour hitting the portal with spring ball nearing an end for most.

Because they don’t like there spot on the post spring depth chart, or agents are in there ear with sweet NIL deals at the big state school.

Just a matter of time before we hear news on our portal vagabonds

Guess he's looking for more PT. Didn't see him on the 2 deep vs Coastal. Think he was more a depth guy, and I see at least 8 other LB's on the roster.

Oh well-sorry it didn't work out for him. He was one of the few on the roster that had a P5 LB frame. Hope he finds a good landing spot.

RE: Football portal
It seems like at this point, some players probably thought they would be higher on the depth chart or are starting to see the writing on the wall that their chances aren't as good as they thought.
While we are going to lose some, it also allows for an opportunity to bring in some players that can fill in some gaps that may not have been there earlier.

By this late in the Spring, the depth chart is taking shape. They'll be more attrition after 1 on 1 talks happen post Spring game.

Nothing new. I don't blame any player for wanting more PT or taking a shot on themselves. Go for it.

Absolutely. I have no issue with that at all.
I also get that it may not have to do with playing time. It could be a million different reasons. Even if it's the most ridiculous reason, they have the right to make that choice.
Obviously I would like to see these guys stay at JMU, but it's not helping anyone forcing someone to stay here either.
Wish them all the best.

Not saying we should go after this guy with his transfer history but it is interesting to see the NCAA transfer rules in effect.

I believe he originally committed to VT (“110% COMMITTED”), signed to Auburn, transferred to UNC for 4 seasons, transferred to UVA in January, and is back in the portal.

+1 A guy like that you don't want. They have been with 3 teams for a reason.

Yeah. I could think of a lot of reasons and none of them are good.

Alright, dumb question - didn't he burn his one transfer for the move to UVA? I'm sure I'm missing something, someone can let me know.

My only thought is there is a hardship waiver for him. I would assume that his grad transfer was to get to UVA in the first place.

This whole portal thing in all sports is just nutz. Wonder how many of the athletes that are in the portal do not wind up in a better situation or no team at all? The grass isn't always greener over the septic tank.

Hope some sanity comes to it soon.

RE: Football portal
Certainly not complaining about this, but it seems our most successful position recruiting from the Portal is QB.

True enough. I think we should be grateful that the portal allowed Centeio to get here last year and two P5 QBs this year. I believe that makes us a clear net gain in the portal, and rightly so, as we have a ton to offer.

I think P5 QBs looking for more PT or upwardly mobility (next level prospects) see JMU as the potential promised land, a top tier G5 with a quarterback whisperer at the helm who has a record of sending QBs to the bigs. I don't know what happened with Cole. I thought he was headed there, too.

While Cig has done great with QBs, so did Houston and Withers. Even Mickey had a couple studs 20 years ago.

QB to Football is almost as key as pitching to softball.
