Bringing two Top 25 programs into the AAC 04-cheers

I ask, what are teams like Memphis doing to improve football and baseball?

Just built a new baseball stadium, and spending over 200 million dollars on renovations to the Liberty Bowl for football.

State of the art locker rooms, sports park, indoor practice facility.

Going for our 10th bowl game in a row. Why do you ask?

I acknowledge the problem. Improvement involves the hiring of a new baseball coach. Memphis plays at FedEx Park.

Here is Roadrunner Field:

Honestly, performance in baseball matters little. It is football and men's basketball that count.

Football Massey Composite (average past four completed seasons)
Memphis (51)
UTSA (67)

Attendance (average past three non-Covid completed seasons)
Memphis (32,102)
UTSA (25,153)

Despite nine consecutive bowl invitations (the 10th longest in FBS), Memphis FB has slipped the past two seasons. I acknowledge the problem. Improvement is in the form of funding (approval is close at hand) for Liberty Bowl renovations of up to $200 million. Also, our coach is on the hot seat. His record of 13-12 the past two seasons is unacceptable.

There is a thread about UTSA basketball still active. You may place your your acknowledgement of UTSA’s problem and offer plans for improvement there.

I think you may be shocked how many Memphis fans nod along with you while giving our AD a sharp stare.

Wayne Graham's proteges do very well as head coaches. See the current HC at UTSA, UTA and UT.

Here's a suggestion for UTSA ... you play football off campus in the Alamodome. Play men's basketball off campus as well. You ain't gonna build a NCAA Tournament quality basketball team playing in a highschool gym. If I'm wrong, put up some bleachers on campus and play football on campus as well. You can call it your home field advantage !!07-coffee3

Looking forward to the rivalry with Tulsa. Not to mention the hotly contested UNT-SMU series.

Expect a pitchers duel.

methinks Temple vs North Texas will be the actual underrated gem. The Tulsa battles tend to be pitchers duels while the UNT-SMU series are more like home run derbies and bench-clearing brawls

Tiger, with all due respect, it’s really only football that matters.

If basketball carried any real weight then Kansas and UConn wouldn’t be on the outside looking in

Football matters most, but basketball matters, also.

For example, the Tigers earned about $2,052,000 in units for the AAC in the 2023 NCAA Tourney. CUSA will earn approximately $10,260,000 in units due to FAU's advancement to the FF.

If you do not consider such funds "weighty", then pledge now to turn over North Texas' share of the money earned by FAU and any possible money earned by Memphis and other AAC schools in the future.

Kansas is in the B12. How is that outside looking in? Some of you Texans need to get out and see the the rest of the country. It's hard to know you live in a bubble when you're in a bubble.

Kentucky is known for basketball and they're in the SEC. Indiana is known for basketball and they're in the BIG. UCLA is known for basketball and they're in the PAC/BIG. Gonzaga is being considered for the B12 and they don't know what a football looks like. I could go on and on.

Yeah Football foots most of the bill, but branding can come from either sport. AAC was built out of the Big East which was built from basketball.

Is there anything in sports bigger than the NCAA tournament? Is there a company in America that doesn't have bracket challenges for their employees?

Bringing two Top 25 programs into the AAC 04-cheers

I ask, what are teams like Memphis doing to improve football and baseball?

Glad you asked.

First off, I've watched several of UTSA's games on ESPN+ this baseball season. Coach Hallmark is doing an amazing job there. The team is playing well and is fun to watch. I enjoy checking them out, wish them continued success and hope they remain in the Top 25, make a regional and ball out. And as a baseball fan, I'm glad to see them bringing a worthy baseball opponent into the AAC to fill a void left by Houston.

Onto your question: Memphis is doing a lot. The baseball program has been awful the past decade. That ambivalence is now gone. UM has a new baseball coach, Kerrick Jackson. Jackson previous was the President of the MLB Draft league and a former player agent and MLB scout. In addition to being a former recruiting coordinator and assistant coach in the SEC. His pitching coach, Tim Jamieson, was head coach at Mizzou for 22 years. Went to several regionals. Was Big 12 coach of the year several times and took Mizzou into the SEC. Developed Max Scherzer and other big time arms.

Field renovations are underway. New turf playing surface is down and looks amazing. New videoboard is up. There are plans to expand the stadium, new and expanded seating and amenities, new lockerroooms, overhaul of the indoor facility. All around the stadium $$ is also coming in to build a student athlete success center, athlete apartments and nutrition, etc. As the facilities come along so do the recruits.

Go to Perfect Game and take a look at the incoming HS 2024 recruiting class. Ranked 42nd in the country currently. Ahead of several Power 5 programs. For the record, UTSA isn't ranked in the Top 100 with 2024 recruits. UTSA is 98th for 2023 recruits.

So, to answer your question, Memphis is upgrading baseball facilities, has a great new staff who are recruiting for the future at a high level. You'll find Memphis more than competitive in short order.

Others have already adequately address your football question.

Good luck the rest of this season. You have a fun team to watch.
