Haven't been told this so it's just me making an assumption... It would not surprise me in the least if candidates reached out to coach Clark about the opening and Bill told them all about his hallmark card worthy, super rosy relationship with Mark. I can see how that would generate a lot of rumors in the coaching community.

He sounds like someone who has an ego big enough to think he can pull off big things but also someone who has experienced humility at the highest levels of it. All of that serves him well, and could potentially serve the Blazers exceptionally well as far as what is needed to achieve the next rung of success.

But it all comes down to winning. All words ring hollow pretty quickly when Ls stack up.

This. It’s not the normal coach’s speak. It sounds like a plan to succeed by sheer force of will. I hope “figure-it-out-ism” translates to actually figuring it out and excelling. Maybe it works and I hope it does. Maybe he can translate all of that to the system, game, and support for FBS college players. He swings for the fences so I hope he connects.

It was said upstream, but if you have not listened to that Mac and Cube interview Dilfer did just after he was hired, you should. He's very open and clear about how he hired his assistants as well as his offense and defense. You won't often get a coach speaking quite that plainly.

He's enthusiastic, and he's worked in media, and that shows. If he coaches anything close to as well as he talks we'll be fine. We won't know where we are until about six games into the season.

I'll be honest--my biggest question mark on this administration will be what they do when adversity strikes. Bill appeared to be very good at taking Ls and winning revenge games and bounceback games. All I can think about is the video of Dilfer choking out the little privileged Chad on the sideline.

All that said, no reason worrying about that until we know what we got.

While I don’t agree with putting hands on kids, unless there is another video out there, Dilfer did nothing that resembled choking that kid.

My HS football coach did much worse on many occasions

Oh believe me, I'm not clutching pearls by any means...just interested to see how he handles himself when everything gets hard. Because it will. Cautiously optimistic we will go 12-0 in the regular season (just like every year). 03-lol

This is the only video I remember that Dilfer had a run in with a player

Yeah, not even close. My recollection what he had him either by the shoulder pads or the facemask. And I had no problem with it. Matter of fact, when I heard we hired Dilfer it was the first thing I remembered, and immediately started warming me up to the hire. I'm reminded of what the sheriff of Marion County, Florida said last week. Sometimes kids need to have hands put on them, within reason. All this pussyfooting around has caused a lot of our problems, but that's a conversation for another time and another forum. A kid needs to know that if you pop off at the mouth to a football coach, there's repercussions.
