He had some absolutely amazing games at UAB. I always felt we had a chance with him in the game.

I 100-percent agree.

I think we got tired, and I can't blame them, after we made the initial run in the second half. They went all out the first 8 minutes of the second half and I think it wore them down. Another reason shot clock violations not being called are really deflating.

Or Oh I don’t know, maybe UNT has pride and plays hard too and is also an excellent team that is well coached

Sometimes it isn’t lack of effort man. The other team is good too.

I normally side with you more than not, but seriously man, stop running down our team. They played their asses off. The other team won.

Yes, of course, there are always things that could have been done better in every game, but our team’s effort in the second half cannot be faulted. Sometimes, teams and individual players can’t overcome every shortcoming 100 percent of the time. This was such a season, but we still set a school record for wins. That’s nothing to sneeze at.
Next season will be a different team with different tendencies. I’ll still be pulling for my alma mater, but I never expect perfection. It doesn’t exist.

I just really don’t like the way this team played basketball, and the way that a couple of players in particular play. I appreciate clean, smart basketball. This team was the antithesis to that for much of the season. I don’t expect perfection, but if I see a sloppy mess I’m going to call it out.

Being the third best team in our conference when we were picked to win it, and not even making The big dance with this roster is a pretty big let down of a season.

Our number of wins is impressive I will admit. Some of our individual games, and stretches of the season, we’re impressive. But overall, the team was a sloppy mess, was inconsistent, and you didn’t really know game to game what team would show up.

I wouldn’t consider this a special season. It was very good and memorable. It would rank behind 03-04, 04-05, 05-06, the season we won CUSA and got an at large under Davis 09-10 I believe? , and last year for me

Jelly with 21 points and 6 assists.

Buffen with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Got 13 points off the bench.

For them, Perry had 20 points, 5 steals, and only 1 turnover.

To me the difference maker was Huntsberry. 21 points and 6 rebounds. Only the 4th time this season Huntsberry has had 20 or more points.

UAB had 31 free throw attempts. North Texas 11.

Well said. I had higher hopes to begin the season but these players represented UAB well. They brought a lot of positive attention to our school and program. Twenty-nine wins. School record. Thank you, Blazers.

RE: NIT Finals
From the jump, this was going to be an emotional uphill battle. We looked like we carried the weight of the world. Tight, undisciplined. But in the second half, we climbed the mountain. I am so proud of this team for answering the bell. I thought it would be a 50/50 chance we clawed back in or lost by 15.

But we battled. I hate hate HATE talking about officiating, but I don’t understand how the ref in charge of the shot clock can point with precision when it hits 10, as is standard, and not recognize we have a close call at 0.

I actually think the referee can blow the play dead and go to the monitor. We saw a couple of those earlier in the tournament (or at least I thought so)…but that’s five total points awarded to NT.

But ya know what else led to those five points? Not rebounding. Too many FG attempts and second chance points, and the law of averages goes against you. We would have needed twice the threes to win decisively the way the stats shake out.

Damn this hurts those guys in that locker room more than us. They have represented our institution with class, dignity, and an undying affinity for pineapples. We will move on as fans, and see more banners hung. For six fine young men, their collegiate career ends with this, a moment frozen in time, where Madea serves you a kill shot and pulls his **** out while laughing all the way to Lubbock.

Life hurts sometimes. There is a lesson here. May Gene guide us forward.

You sound like Rain Man, bragging about being an excellent driver and watching Wapner at 6, over and over. Swallow the compulsion to repeat every negative opinion in your head. People are telling you directly, not for the first time, to temper your repetitive criticism.
Please respect the room, at least a little. You’re in the middle of UAB fans.

Fun season, never had the chance to follow UAB Basketball this late into March. Wouldn't call it a special season though, especially with the expectations we had in November. Still, this NIT run has been fun.

My only request for the makeup of the roster for next season: Please prioritize players with a high basketball IQ.

I’m super proud of how they clawed back in the 2nd half.

We didn’t come to play with the right energy or fengshui, had a really bad first half, and that ultimately doomed us.

The missed 24 second violations are some of the most egregious miscarriages of officiating I’ve ever seen, but we still could have won regardless. Memphis blazer made a good point, those missed calls wouldn’t have mattered if we had simply gotten a rebound. We didn’t. Very poor effort to start, getting beat on the boards and two loose balls, and jelly having another pretty poor game are what doomed us.

Overall, very good and memorable season.

Jeez

Which of those seasons would you rank this one ahead of?

UAB has a storied basketball tradition. We didn’t win our conference regular season, conference tournament, or get into the big dance. That automatically excludes this year from being a special season IMO. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t a really good season, But definitely not special.

I will make a separate post about this but I am so thankful for our seniors.

Jelly, your love for UAB is forever reciprocated. Thank you for embracing us as much as we embraced you. Thank you for some of the most spectacular moments I have ever seen from a Blazer. Thank you for repping us like you rep Long Island. Thank you for being you.

Brewer Brothers — thank you for coming here and sacrificing opportunities for bigger individual roles to be part of chasing greatness here. Thank you for always playing hard and always repping UAB with pride. thank you for pineapple, pancakes and water.

KJ, I have come to appreciate you as much as any Blazer who ever wore green and gold. you are a WARRIOR. You have a beer at my tailgate anytime you want to stop by, and I hope you will be part of our family when you are old and gray. I know how hard you worked, and I know what this place means to you. Blazer for Life.

Richard, I believe your best is to come in life and I believe someday when we are old men you will be seen as one of the greatest blazers ever not for what you did in basketball but for what you did in life using basketball to do it. Build your network and always keep learning, when you are ready, others will follow you.

Tavin, you are one of my top 5 favorite Blazers. unselfish, always ready for wherever was asked of you, thank you for sticking it out and driving hard all the way to the finish.

I thought it was a fabulous season for UAB. Really loved way our guys fought tonight. No one was going to beat FAU in the C-USA title game on that night.
Congratulations to both teams tonight. North Texas just got several hugh breaks but really proud to be a UAB Blazer! Great season!
