Shutes appears to stop Brett in the line before throwing her sucker punch. I would expect an assault warrant to issue and Shutes to eventually explain her actions to a judge.

I would hope she will be charged. Can’t do that.

Ja in a nightclub with guns & strippers… Memphis players shoving/ arguing on the bench.. a Memphis Tiger punching a competitor in the handshake line. Not the best month, PR-wise, for our city

05-stirthepot I watched the video of the incident in the handshake line and it really makes Memphis look bad. A slew of comments on Memphis basketball and the city of Memphis itself as to it's citizens. We wonder why a P-5 shows no interest in us. well this is a perfect example. We are viewed as thugs and this type action certainly makes it look as if it is a correct assumption. What in the hell is wrong with some of our athletes ? Criminal charges may be filed against her.

Nice to poo poo on Memphis, but down at Alabama, they're playing their star player who was an accessory to murder. And I believe the Georgia player got off who was driving in access of 100 MPH and wrecked and killed a female passenger.

And I'm pretty sure there has been several murders at Baylor, so this sheet goes on everywhere.

I hate it for Jemirah, she's a good player who lost her cool.

My degree is not from Alabama & I don’t live in Waco.
When these situations happen at & in Memphis, the national response is “typical” & it’s a knock on all of us. I’m sorry, but it is what it is.

Cheap shotting someone in the handshake line is about the worst level of sportsmanship imaginable.

No reason to blow it out of proportion. It was stupid and embarrassing for her and the team and the staff. This stuff happens in sports consistently throughout the year at all levels. The police getting involved is completely ridiculous. We had an all brawl with BYU. Was anyone arrested or charged then?

Saw several of these ridiculous comments on twitter last night. Dude, she's a 5'10" female basketball player...not Ronda Rousey. 01-wingedeagle

Assault charges have been filed...and rightly so. Sucker punching someone is not the same thing as engaging in a fight with a willing opponent

Wrong is wrong... but it's the reaction. Folks want to label her a thug with a rap sheet. Come on man... so 1960ish.

SEC women's tournament this year had 8 players ejected for fighting. Don't hear many folks calling for them to be arrested and using racist terms like 'rap sheet'.

What would you call it? It certainly didn’t seem like a “heat of the moment” punch, which happens sometimes in sports. This happened 3 quarters after taking an elbow and appeared to be planned, which is why there’s a police report filed. I’m sorry, but its not 1960-ish to expect student athletes to not cheap shot each other in the hand shake line. Is basic civility asking too much? Is it 1960-ish?
