Good for USF, I think he'll do well there.

Good for Mike...his son is closeby. He can drink beer and coach. USF fans will be happy with occasional NCAA invites and NIT runs. The SunDome (or whatever they call it now) is actually a very nice facility.

RE: Mike Brey to coach South Florida
Mike Brey could be the next Bill C. Foster.

Foster worked his way up to take over the Clemson program when it barely existed and coached there for 9 seasons (75-76 thru 83-84). Foster laid the groundwork for A solid Clemson basketball program.

From Clemson he took over the Miami program when it was playing in a high school gym with a curtain dividing the two half of the Gym/Auditorium. Foster re-built Miami basketball into something respectable (85-86 thru 89-90).

From Miami Foster then was called to Virginia Tech to jump start their program (91-92 thru 96-97) the Hokies were NIT champions in 94-95 and made it to the NCAA round of 32 the next year.

Foster helped Clemson, then got two future ACC teams ready for Conference competition. Mike Brey may be doing the same thing at USF.

Probably a solid hire. But I wonder why Brey struggled so much the last few years when ND is close by Chicago and in a basketball eccentric state.

ND "retired" Brey.

He got a nice retirement sendoff and a final home win against Pitt out of it.

After winning an ACC title and two Elite 8's, Brey pretty much mailed it in.

It was time for a change for both parties.

Brey is a great guy. I wish him well at USF.

ND is talking to Penn State's coach right now.

We shall see if it can get him.

Are you sure USF didn’t poach him?
Those American schools been poaching ACC coaches all year. 03-lmfao

RE: Mike Brey to coach South Florida
He mailed it in, Green.

He had just come off two Elite 8's and an ACC title, plus a good recruiting class.

ND then missed the NCAA Tournament every year but one (last year, which you cite) since 2016.

His team this year included 6 grad students, Brey was going to ride them into the sunset.

Unfortunately, his season fell apart early and often.

Now, ND is left with almost zero scholarship players.

It was time for him to go. His sendoff was much better than Jim Boeheim's.

Good luck to Brey at USF.

USF is a good spot for Brey. The Bulls have struggled in basketball since they shifted to the American…expectations are reasonable. Brey did an excellent job at Delaware, and his start at Notre Dame was impressive…this change can be rejuvenating. The American will still have Memphis and Temple, so there other basketball programs that expect to make the Tournament.

@PeteThamel

Notre Dame coach Mike Brey tells ESPN he interviewed for USF, but was not offered the job. He said he's going to take some time off and pursue television.

If I was USF, I would be talking to Furman’s coach. I think it was wise to pass on Brey. He’s not a good fit for them IMO.
