They look final 4 good. Will definitely be in the elite 8 now. Barnes finally is coaching his butt off

RE: NTR - Tennessee beats Duke
UT’s starting lineup is 6’3, 6’4, 6’6, 6’9 and 7’1. Bench is 6’2, 6’8, 6’8 and 6’11.
Long athletic team. We need to get away from midget lineups. We had big lineups when Cal made his run here.

it's been 14 years since the last one now guaranteed to be at least 15.

Kids that were infants the last time we went to one are going to be sophomores & juniors in highs school next year.

This just should not be happening at Memphis.

Thank Josh Pastner and Tubby Smith for that. Penny is digging Memphis out of the hole they created. Drought would have ended this year if not for some god awful officiating and boneheaded plays last night

To be fair, 5 years is enough time to dig out of a hole at Memphis. I think next year (Year 6) will tell us how this thing is going to go. It's a rebuilding year but in a much weaker conference. Penny should still finish in the top 3 of 2023-24 AAC but what will that mean? Is the AAC a 1-bid league next year? It could very well be.

Does Penny regress and only field an NIT team? Does he make the NCAA tournament but fail to get to the second weekend again? - This might be ok if he's got a strong core returning to build on. Not much coming back from a first round exit team to build next year's team on.

If next year is a step back I don't see much patience left for Penny.

We could have been played TN in the Sweet 16.. It would have been EPIC.

I still can't believe these morons lost to FAU.. We gave the game away..

Yes, it would have been an awesome week. Totally crazy fun. Tigers just didn't do their part.

He’s on the right path.

20+ wins every year
NIT
NIT champ
2nd round
Conf tournament champ & 1st rd (should’ve been a s16)

All this during covid as an inexperienced head coach with a bogus NCAA investigation. He’s had a better 1st 5 years at Memphis than Calipari did. The similarities are striking, but he’s been slightly better.

I do agree that we start back over again next season. However this is a different era with the portal and NIL. Penny is primed to excel in it. He will get some players in the portal.

How were Cal's 6 - 9 years...... I wonder if Penny will still be ahead of him?

Don 't forget - Pastner was ahead of Cal too. as many, many pointed out.

How will the team chemistry be next season particularly early? The performance against the OOC schedule will be more important next year than ever before as the conference schedule will not offer many, if any games against ranked teams. The AAC will be getting ZERO respect next year so any conference losses will be just like losing in the CUSA days.... it was the kiss of death for seeding / at-large bids.

Hate to admit it, but Rick Barnes has elevated the UT program above ours. Hopefully, Penny can get us back to even footing with UT.

RE: NTR - Tennessee beats Duke
Yep, 5 yrs is enough to show major progress. Penny had the team this season to move forward but didn't. I think he takes a step back next season unless he finds a big-time PG & a solid big in the portal to go with his recruited young talent. Even if Penny takes a step back, I don't see our admin doing anything. But I think like Pastner & Tubby, if winning at a high level can't be had, attendance will take a big hit & force Penny out over the next season or two.

We had a shot at him after Pastner left. We hired Tubby Smith.
